I get this question at the studio all the time. Simple solution, but the real work occurs outside of the gym. Time to man up your diet and lifestyle! Hey, I’m 62, this will work for you!!!

How can I tighten my chest and lose my “Man Boobs”

“Man Boobs”! Makes every man cringe when they think that, or worse, see that in the mirror! Talk about starting the day off on a bad note!

You are not alone. I live in a beach community. Most guys over the age of 30 are sitting under a beach umbrella, with their shirts on. “Sun is too strong, or water is too cold, so I’ll sit here and watch my kids play, check out the girls walking by, or read my book. I wish I had a harder body and the confidence to just take my shirt off!” Truth be told, I was that guy. My daughter was born when I was 35, I was working 2 jobs, had stopped working out completely, and weighted 280+ pounds when she was born. I was disgusted with myself. 2 years later, I was 177 pounds and less than 10% body fat. What I did to get there is exactly what I’ll share with you here today.
So, stay with me, and I’ll give you the 3 things I teach my clients to do, to get beach worthy now! You can be 30 days away from hitting those goals, are you ready to start now?

There are many reasons men pack on the pounds of soft, flabby fat on their chests. But it doesn’t have to be that way, there is a fix, and it’s a life changing, permanent fix for sure. Problem is that the world is actually working against you! It’s true.
Fake food, harmful fats, and oils in everything. Highly refined, sugar laden carbs, and even poor protein options are leading the charge. And who has time to exercise?
I got your answers, are you ready?

1) Time to workout smart, not just hard. Designing a program that is not just reps and sets but gives you a huge hormonal impact that you start burning fat and building muscle! Think breathless and burning, heavy with a lot of heat! Totally safe and effective!
2) Learning what foods pack a punch with a positive, fat burning hormonal response instead of a fat storage hormonal nightmare. Hint, avoid processed grains like bread, pasta, and cereal, and focus on green, high fiber vegetables!

Magnesium Glycinate verses Magnesium Carbonate
1. Magnesium Glycinate (in IDLife Calm)
I will start off with what is perhaps my favorite form of magnesium: magnesium glycinate. This means that magnesium is combined with the amino acid glycine. Overall, the glycinate form absorbs better and is least likely to cause digestive distress. More commonly, you will find magnesium glycinate in capsule form. Sometimes you can find magnesium glycinate powder which I prefer as magnesium is a bulky supplement. This means that in order to get an effective dose, you have to take a greater quantity of pills. So, instead of taking a handful of magnesium pills, you can take a little powder mixed in with a little water more easily. The additional water also works well as magnesium draws water into the stool in the digestive tract.
Uniquely, magnesium glycinate is known for its ability to affect our neurological health. Research has shown that 150 to 300 mg of magnesium glycinate (or mixed with a magnesium taurinate) taken a few times per day has shown marked improvement in cases of depression, anxiety, and memory loss. The mechanism of action is still unknown. One hypothesis is that those low in magnesium may suffer more from mental health issues. However, magnesium blood tests have not shown this to be the case. Research hints that it may be possible people begin feeling symptoms before blood tests show a deficiency.
Overall, if you are looking for a magnesium option that may provide the most calming and restful effect in the evening or using it for overall mood support, a magnesium glycinate may be your better option. In addition, you may see some anti-inflammatory support from the glycinate form as an added bonus!
4. Magnesium Carbonate (In Natural Vitality Calm)
Magnesium carbonate deserves a mention as it is a popular choice for myself and my clients. Magnesium carbonate turns into magnesium chloride in the stomach and may offer stomach-soothing antacid benefits when drinking the supplement from a powder form. Therefore, I prefer magnesium carbonate in a powder form that you mix in with a little water and drink as a supplement.
Magnesium carbonate plus citric acid forms magnesium citrate when mixed together in water. This is why you may see many powder magnesium carbonate forms with citric acid listed as an ingredient. When the water is added to the mixture, your drink has some bubbles and fizz showing this chemical reaction occurs. Over the course of a few minutes, your drink will turn into magnesium citrate. If you want the drink to settle your stomach, consume when it is still fizzy. If you prefer to get more of the highly absorbable citrate form, allow the bubbles to settle, and then drink it.
Overall, magnesium carbonate plus citric acid is one of my favorite options as it is enjoyable to drink and offers a nice calming feel to the stomach.
With calm natural vitality, it functions primarily as an antacid!

It does not function to:

2) Reduce Stress
3) Support Cognitive function
4) Improve emotional wellbeing
5) Regulate neurotransmitters and hormone levels associated with mood and stress response

Mike Keenan has practiced in the field of Health and Fitness for over 30 years. As a high school and college athlete, Mike understood the importance of focusing on goals to accomplish dreams. "A goal is a dream with a date on it". Mike is a Graduate of SUNY Cortland, with a degree in Physical Education and Athletic Training.Mike became a NATA Certified Athletic Trainer in 1987. Mike then attended graduate school at the University of Buffalo on a graduate assistant ship, where he taught in the undergraduate physical therapy program and served as an athletic trainer. From 1989-1994, Mike served as the Director of Athletic Training and Sports Performance Training for a large Long Island Physical Therapy practice where his primary responsibility was to recondition professional and amateur athletes for return to play. As owner for KM Fitness, Mike's primary responsibility is in the area of Evaluation and Exercise Prescription. Continuing education is ongoing commitment.Mike Keenan is the owner and founder of KM Fitness. As a Health Coach and Fitness Trainer, the optimal health and wellness, of each of our clients, is our number one priority. Our mission statement is simple, people first. Health coaching is a new concept to most, but in reality has been the center of our my practice for over 30 years. In my past vocation of physical therapy, i was an expert in rehabilitation. In health coaching, it is redemption. Most people ask, whats the difference? Rehabilitation is returning someone to their previous level of being. Redemption is creating someone new, elevating someone to a mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and relational being they never were before. How is it done, 5 simple steps, Sleep, Hydration, Nutrition, Stress Management and Exercise. It is through the coaching this is accomplished.

Susan Keenan is Mike’s partner and wife and mother in the truest form. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Michael, for 28 years (together for 30) and I’m the proud mother of 2 of the most amazing children on planet earth (in my own humble opinion LOL). Between Michael and I we have over 35 years of experience in the health and wellness industry and have been serving the needs of the Manasquan/Monmouth County community for the past 18 years. Everything that I do is done to create a better future for my family and I feel the services we offer at KM Fitness is my way of giving back to the community who has been so wonderful in supporting us while we live and prosper in this wonderful community of the Jersey Shore.
