Catholic Medical Center

Catholic Medical Center Located in Manchester, NH, CMC's mission is to provide health, healing and hope to every individual.

Catholic Medical Center (CMC), a nonprofit regional health system, with a commitment to delivering the highest quality and most advanced healthcare to patients across New Hampshire. CMC is the home of the nationally-renowned New England Heart & Vascular Institute, rated among the top cardiovascular programs in the country. Our doctors were the first in the state to perform a mechanical heart/left

ventricular assist device implant and first in New England to implant the WATCHMAN™ for atrial fibrillation. CMC was also one of the first hospitals in New Hampshire to establish a joint venture with independent medical staff members when it became a partner in the freestanding Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center and imaging center. CMC’s birthing unit, The Mom’s Place, was the first hospital in the country to have a neonatal unit based on "couplet care.” Our nationally-accredited Breast Care Center was the first in the state to use contrast enhanced mammography and SAVI SCOUT® localization for breast surgery. With primary care practices that care for the very young to the young at heart and our dedication to community outreach programs, CMC is helping to foster a healthier community, everyday.

Our four New Hampshire hospital CEOs, John Skevington, Tom Bowden, Whitney Fenyak and Sean Patterson, attended the Tri-Chamber State of the State event held at our sister facility, Frisbie Memorial Hospital, where we welcomed Governor Kelly Ayotte for her first address to the Dover, Rochester and Somersworth business communities.

Thank you to the Tri-Chambers of Commerce for bringing local leaders together and to Eversource NH for underwriting this important event. We’re proud to support conversations that strengthen our region and help shape the future of New Hampshire.

🌼 July DAISY Award 🌼

The DAISY Award was created in memory of Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 from an autoimmune disease. His family started the DAISY Foundation to honor nurses who provide the kind of skillful, compassionate care that meant so much to them. At CMC, Megan Driscoll exemplifies the spirit of this award.

We recently celebrated Megan, who was nominated by Pam Guillory on behalf of multiple patients. Known for her kindness, communication and ability to connect with patients – even those who described themselves as difficult – Megan embodies what this award is all about. One patient even said their family wanted to “adopt” her.

Thank you, Megan, for the compassionate care you bring to CMC! 💛

– Dr. Jessica Ryan, breast oncologist, CMC

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in New Hampshire. With one of the highest rates in the country, early detection is critical.

In the New Hampshire Union Leader’s Medical Update, Dr. Ryan highlights the importance of:
🔹 Annual mammograms starting at age 40
🔹 Performing self-exams and reporting any changes to your doctor
🔹 Understanding the risks of dense breast tissue (40% of women have it!)
🔹 Embracing new technologies like contrast-enhanced mammography and AI-assisted imaging
🔹 Dispelling misconceptions about radiation exposure

At CMC, we’re proud to offer advanced tools and expert care that empower women with better outcomes.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the arms or legs. It’s easy to mistake PAD for other conditions like hip arthritis or spinal stenosis, which means often goes undiagnosed. Many people with PAD don’t experience symptoms at all. That’s why awareness of risk factors – such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and smoking – is crucial for screening.

Understanding the early warning signs is the first step toward timely intervention and better quality of life. In most cases, lifestyle changes, exercise and medications are enough to slow the progression or even reverse the symptoms of PAD, so talk to your doctor if you think you may be at risk. For more information on preventing and treating PAD, visit https://bit.ly/4knrw6I

In collaboration with the American Heart Association, our larger HCA Healthcare network promotes better heart health through national education efforts and community integration.
