“Discipline gives me my freedom back.”

Recovery is about direction. Even a little routine matters.

As Admiral William H. McRaven once shared, something as simple as making your bed creates a small sense of pride, a reminder that you can complete a task and move forward.

Those small actions build momentum.
They create self-worth.
They give us a quiet sense of accomplishment that adds up over time.

Structure creates breathing room.
Discipline restores confidence.
Consistency rebuilds trust with ourselves.

What simple routine helps you feel grounded or accomplished today?

🛹 One Year Sober 🛹

Celebrating Dalton and Ryan H. on one year of sobriety!

In the photos, both on skateboards representing balance, grit and focus. Dalton is a skateboarder through and through. Even after losing most of his sight, he stayed on the board. That tells you pretty much everything you need to know about how he approaches life and recovery.

Ryan knew the assignment and pulled out a throwback photo to match the theme. For anyone who knows his story, the contrast between then and now speaks for itself. No big speech needed.

Both of these guys were steady leaders at the RJM House before we got involved, and that consistency helped make the transition at Lake Ave solid from the start. They set the tone, and inspire newcomers trying to figure out what recovery can look like.

Different paths, same direction. Keep rolling.

“Comfort kept me sick.
Discomfort showed me a way out.”

The things that help us change are often the things we resist at first. How many resisted going to treatment? Going to recovery housing after?

Discomfort isn’t a sign that something is wrong.
A lot of the time, it’s a nudge in the right direction.

We don’t grow by avoiding uncomfortable moments. We grow by leaning into the process, and by embracing and learning from the discomfort

What’s one uncomfortable thing in your recovery that ended up helping you grow?

✨ Sobriety Spotlight — Matt F | One Year ✨

Over the past year, Matt committed to step work 📖, stayed close to his sponsor 🤝, listened to other men in recovery, and grounded himself in the stories of the Big Book — especially Freedom from Bo***ge. That work helped him connect the dots between childhood trauma, abandonment, and low self-esteem, and how alcohol and drugs once felt like a solution that ultimately stopped working.

Through Alcoholics Anonymous, sober living 🏡, and honest conversations 💬, Matt learned a turning-point truth: recovery isn’t a solo mission. Letting go of ego, surrendering his will and life to God 🙏, being honest with himself, and serving others have become daily actions.

Today, Matt’s focus is clear 👇
• Keep doing the work 💪
• Serve others daily 🤲
• Share his story of strength and hope 📣
• Help the next person stay sober 🧭

🎂 One year sober reflects consistency, humility, and willingness, practiced one day at a time.

👏 Proud of you, Matt. Keep going.

Mindset Monday 💭

You’ve all heard it — “Feelings aren’t fact.”

That doesn’t mean feelings don’t matter. They do. They’re real, and they’re real to us. But they aren’t always the truth, and they are never permanent. Feelings pass. They rise and fall based on fear, exhaustion, pride, stress, old patterns, and sometimes nothing at all. When we treat every feeling as a fact, we give it authority it doesn’t deserve, and we let it steer our actions.

Recovery teaches us something different. We don’t have to react to every emotion, or allow it to control us. We can pause. We can talk it through. We can ask for perspective. We can choose actions that line up with who we’re becoming, not just how we feel in the moment.

Feelings inform us.
Actions define us.

Mindset Monday 2026 🧠✨
Aligning actions with intentions

A lot of us come into a new year talking about intentions. And that’s not a bad thing. But in recovery, intentions only matter if they line up with what we actually do.

It’s worth slowing down and asking ourselves: Do my choices today align with my intentions; or are they the old patterns in a new outfit?

When our actions start to match our intentions, things start to change, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly (as the saying goes). Be patient, all the small and quiet successes will add up - one day at a time.

🎉Congratulations Ari - 1 Year Sober 🎉

This past week we celebrated Ari hitting one year sober!

What stands out most about Ari is that her recovery always comes first. Because of that, her ability to lead comes naturally. Not forced. Not performative. Just consistent and real.

This past week we celebrated Ari hitting one year sober in order before we can help lead others. Ari lives that. She focuses on her sobriety, does the work, and shows up, and the the rest follows.

We’re proud of you Ari, and grateful for you. One year is a big deal, and it’s clear you’re building something solid. 💙

🧠 Mindset Monday 💭

Learning to stay calm when we feel disrespected is a lesson we all have to learn especially in recovery.

Our first instinct is often to react defend or prove a point. Growth shows up when we are willing to pause set aside our pride and take a look at our part. That is a core principle behind the Fourth Step honest self examination not blame.

Acceptance plays a big role here. Other people’s actions opinions or attitudes do not get to rule us unless we allow them to. When we practice acceptance we stop giving away our peace and start responding instead of reacting.

Staying calm does not mean we ignore disrespect or avoid boundaries. It means we choose clarity over chaos and integrity over ego. That is real progress and a different kind of strength.

Growth is not always loud. Sometimes it is quiet intentional and internal.
