Mildred Edwards, age 78, departed this life on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at her home. Mildred was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Through all the ups and downs of a well-lived life, she remained true to the best qualities a mother can possess—steady love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. All of us are better for having known her and been shaped by her presence.

She was born on Monday, February 9, 1948, in Manchester, to Cloyd and Nettie (Broughton) Swafford. She devoted herself to her home and family and found great purpose in serving her community.

In her later years, Mildred found great joy in tending her flowers, quilting, volunteering with the Clay County Historical Society, and helping preserve the memory of those honored at Camp Wildcat Civil War Memorial. She was also a faithful member of Horse Creek Baptist Church. She loved sharing family stories and passing down the history of those who came before us. Nothing brought her more happiness than spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom knew her love deeply.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, MC Edwards; her children, Brian Edwards, Michael Edwards, Susan Edwards Sizemore, and Angela Edwards Jobe; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Arvil Swafford, Arlie Swafford, and Edna Swafford Downey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cloyd and Nettie Swafford, and her siblings, Oscar Swafford, Virgie Smith, Vernie McDaniel, Dennis Swafford, Ella Mae McDaniel, and Wilma Swafford.

Funeral services for Mildred will be conducted on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Rominger Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. Scottie Sumner presiding. Burial will follow in Manchester Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Saturday after 12:00 PM at Rominger Funeral Home chapel.

Mildred’s legacy lives on in the character, values, and work of her descendants and will continue for generations to come. The world is a better place because she was in it. Godspeed, Mildred. Godspeed.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Rominger Funeral Home.
