Want to support veterans in November??? Maybe join this RUN, WALK, RUCK race!
Veterans Base Camp is a recipient and benefactor of this annual event.
And it. Is. FUN!!!!

I’ll be on the road with The Wall That Heals that week, but please come out and join this wonderful event!

Veterans Day is a great time for all Americans to salute our military veterans and say, "Thank you." Patriots Park in Coventry, CT will be the location of the premier Veterans Day event in CT on November 8th.

This is our 10th anniversary of celebrating and honoring veterans. Ten years of honoring our brave men and women and ten years of supporting CT Veteran Service Organizations who provide valuable and needed services for our veteran community. To date, we've distributed over $110,000 to VSO's helping our veteran community.

Coventry, CT, is the place to be on Saturday, November 8th, to honor and salute our veterans. At 9:45 a.m. there is a patriotic opening ceremony featuring the UConn ROTC color guard and UConn's Rubyfruit A Ca****la Choir. Lori Marriott, U.S. Army veteran, will be the guest speaker. At 10:00 a.m. is race start and 11 a.m. is the awards ceremony.

Join us to learn more about veterans. Visit the military static displays in the Park and the other Veteran Service Organizations displayed. The day is a celebration for everyone to enjoy our freedom because of these brave veterans.

If you want to participate to run, walk or ruck, sign up here. We offer both live and virtual.

Sometimes social work is pretty social….
Like when i get to have some of the teens from The Learning Center assist me in feeding the chickens … and we get to talk a little about the weather and incoming storm.
And aren’t these chicks just pretty?!?! We discussed that as well….

What are the proven, research-supported benefits of massage therapy?????

https://www.nccih.nih.gov/health/providers/digest/massage-therapy-for-health-science

The research shows: Relief of low-back, shoulder, neck, and joint pain. Reduction of symptoms from osteoarthritis, cancer treatments, and fibromyalgia. Improved infant care. Reduction of the anxiety, depression, and stress of HIV/AIDS & treatment. Reduced headache frequency and intensity.

Antecdotally, clients report improved sleep and mood, reduced effects from stress response, improved mind-body connection, and more ease in the physical body.

Massage is not magic. But the art and science combine & make it feel like it might be!

Answering a common question during this National Massage Therapy Awareness Week (NMTAW)… to tip or not to tip?
The answer is …. ‘It depends’
LMTs never expect a tip, but it is an appreciated gesture when it happens.

Some LMTs work in settings where tipping would be weird. Like a chiropractor’s office. Others are in day- or resort-spas, where it seems the ‘norm’ to tip. So, you can take a cue from the setting.

Some LMTs create a relaxing and inviting experience that addresses mind, body, & spirit while others focus more on addressing pain or rehab in a more clinical fashion. If you feel that your therapist has attended to more than ‘just’ the muscles, maybe you feel called to offer a little extra.

Some LMTs have signs that request no tipping, while others provide an envelope or offer the option when you pay by credit card.

Finally, some clients can afford to tip. Some clients can not afford more than the massage they have scheduled. And THAT is one of rhe biggest factours.

So, the correct answer is ‘it depends’ on tipping. Many of my clients do not. But many do. And i appreciate them all equally!!!!

It is National Massage Therapy Awareness Week (NMTAW) & so how DO you find a LMT (licensed massage therapist) near you who is specializing in what you seek? Easy!
This link: https://www.amtamassage.org/find-massage-therapist/

You can look up via zip code & modality, and all those listed are licensed and members of AMTA, which is one of the major professional organizations for massage therapists.

Why does it matter if your massage provider is licensed???
Well, in CT, it is the law. And we must renew every two years. Ask to see your therapist’s license… it is required to be displayed in any office they work in (yes, even at Massage Envy!).
It means that your therapist has training in not just modality and technique, but also in various pathologies and how to best provide support/relief with massage.
It means that your therapist is held to a code of ethics.
It means that the CT Dept of Public Health regulates the profession and scope of practice.
It means that you are seeing a professional who is not involved in human/sex trafficking and upholds the profession as a whole, keeping clients and therapists alike safer.

Choose a LICENSED Massage Therapist and then allow them to use effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, vibration, holding without movement, and range-of-motion to ease away pain and tension while holding the space to invite reduced stress, anxiety, and the intensity of emotional upsets.

Find an AMTA member massage therapist near you with our national locator service. AMTA is the most respected name in massage therapy.

As i specialize in Thai Massage (Nuad Bo-rarn), i felt sharing an article about Thai Massage benefits specifically would be best 😁

I love that i can treat clients very 3-D, and work supine, prone, sidelying, and seated. I love that i can use more than just hands/forearms to apply pressure, support limbs, and create stretches/tractions. I love that the work invites deeper breathing for both giver and receiver. I just love Thai massage!!!!

Today, nature graced both my long, post-VBC drive & Charlotte’s walk with special treats…. Autumn colours, sunshine through beautiful & scattered clouds, turkeys on an evening constitutional with their younguns, crunchy leaves beneath my feet…

And it kicks off National Massage Therapy Awareness Week (NMTAW).
Massage is good for relaxation. Massage refreshes the soul & spirit while giving some rest to the nervous system.
Research shows the benefits of massage on reducing anxiety, depression, and stress. See https://www.amtamassage.org/about/news/research-supports-massage-for-mental-health/ for the references to some studies.

Have you booked your next massage yet??
