Today, Amoskeag Health hosted a roundtable discussion with Congressman Chris Pappas on the potential impacts of the enhanced Marketplace Premium Tax Credits set to expire at the end of this year.

The discussion included Patrick Curtin, CFO of Amoskeag Health; Betsy Burtis, COO of Amoskeag Health; Gregory White, Co-CEO of Lamprey Health Care; Jocelyn Caple, CEO of Greater Seacoast Community Health; Stephanie Pagliuca, Senior Director of Workforce Development and Recruitment at Bi-State Primary Care Association; and Henry Och, President and CEO of Harbor Care.

The conversation focused on how the expiration of these credits could affect patients and community health centers. Many enrollees are expected to face sharply higher insurance costs, and some are likely to drop coverage because of that cost. Research shows that when people go without insurance or delay care for financial reasons, it can make health problems worse and treatment more expensive. Participants agreed that decreases in coverage would put additional strain on FQHCs and CHCs, which would likely face higher volumes of uncompensated care.

Changes to these credits could affect not just individuals, but the broader health of our communities.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a reminder that screening matters. If you’re between 40 and 74, make time to schedule your mammogram. It’s quick, it’s routine, and it could save your life.

October 6th through the 12th is National PA Week!

On June 19, 2025, Governor Ayotte signed a bill officially changing the title from Physician Assistant to Physician Associate. This change follows a 2021 decision by the National PA Society and better reflects the role these providers play as part of a healthcare team. New Hampshire was the third state to recognize the change.

Thank you to our Physician Associates Kristin, Kaitlyn, Katie-Starr, Jessica, Karen, and Igbal for the incredible care you give our patients every day. We are grateful to have you as part of the Amoskeag Health team!

Recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all, easy, or always linear. As National Recovery Month comes to a close, we want to share the story of Stephen, who has worked with the Amoskeag Health team during his recovery journey.

He walked all the way from Concord to Manchester to keep his first appointment and has since worked hard to continue developing skills that help him navigate life’s challenges. Last year, he shared his story about how Amoskeag Health supported him as he continued his recovery and achieved reunification with his son.

Too much screen time can increase the risk of nearsightedness, especially in children. With so much of our time spent on computers, phones, and tablets, it is important to build in healthy habits. Taking regular breaks from screens can help protect long-term eye health.

So remember to take a break from the screen you’re reading this on and keep up with your annual eye exam to help ensure your eyes and your family’s eyes stay healthy!

Children should have their first eye exam before kindergarten. Early exams can catch issues like the need for glasses that, if left untreated, may lead to amblyopia, a permanently reduced vision in adulthood.

This week at Amoskeag Health we’re focusing on eye health. Our Family Eye Care Center provides comprehensive care for children and adults to help keep their vision healthy: https://ow.ly/x09g50X0aR9
