Today, Farnum, a program of Easterseals NH, joins in observing the fourth annual National Fentanyl Awareness Day. This day unites businesses, nonprofits, schools, and other organizations to raise awareness about the deadly threat of illicit fentanyl.
Fentanyl is an extremely potent drug—just 2 milligrams, about the size of a few grains of sand, can be lethal to a healthy adult. Tragically, many who ingest fentanyl do so unknowingly, greatly increasing the risk of a fatal overdose.

Farnum stands alongside thousands of organizations sounding the alarm on fentanyl’s devastating impact. Last year, we helped 1,886 adults reclaim their lives from substance use, but our work is far from over. We remain committed to providing personalized care plans for each individual we serve and breaking the pervasive stigma surrounding addiction.

Thank you to everyone who supported Farnum’s Winter Warmth Drive. We’re thrilled to share that we surpassed our goal of collecting 200 winter jackets!

Along with jacket donations from our staff, we received generous contributions from several local organizations, such as Members First Credit Union, Bellwether Community Credit Union, and Bartley Financial Advisors, to support the Drive.

Meeting the needs of our clients through this Drive wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our community partners, donors, and amazing staff, who all work together to make a real difference. Together, we are proud to support our Farnum Center clients in their recovery journey this winter.

Karen has been a resident instructor at Farnum, a program of Easterseals NH, for just over four years but previously worked for the agency for five as a direct support associate. She is one of several Farnum staffers tasked with providing supervision and training for our clients to help them increase their independence and confidence by the end of their time with us.

“I love being able to offer hope to people,” Karen says. “Addiction strips us of our humanity, and it’s our job to begin to help that come back. Every day, I feel like I am making some impact on my community, and I appreciate everybody here who helps me do that.”

Karen also feels a strong sense of inclusion and belonging among clients and staff. “This is a place where you can lift your head and be proud of who you are,” she says. “I’ve told my fellow residents that I’m not sitting here judging you because I would have to judge myself to do that. That makes a huge difference to people.”

Thank you, Karen, for sharing your “Why” with us! We appreciate the vital work you do at Farnum every day.
