Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and we primarily want to focus on honoring Dr. King’s legacy, his leadership, and his enduring commitment to justice, equity, and care for the community.
We also wanted to briefly acknowledge that today, the third Monday in January, is sometimes called “Blue Monday” and thought to be one of the "saddest days of the year". While this term was originally created as part of a marketing campaign and is not grounded in scientific research, the reality is that this time of year can genuinely be difficult for many people.
Short daylight hours, cold weather, disrupted routines, financial stress, and social isolation can all contribute to increased feelings of sadness, fatigue, or depression during the winter months. For individuals who experience seasonal depression or who are already navigating mental health challenges, January and February can feel especially heavy.
If today feels hard, you are not alone. We encourage everyone to take care of themselves today, this month, and throughout the winter season, whether that means resting, reaching out to someone you trust, getting outside when possible, or asking for professional support.
We are here to help. Our team is available to support children and families with compassionate, evidence-based mental health care. If you or someone you care about is struggling, please do not hesitate to reach out!
