STRONG ASSOCIATION FOUND BETWEEN SPINAL PAIN AND CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITIONS. A group of researchers have discovered significant associations between spinal pain and chronic diseases.

Using the outcomes of a survey involving over 26,000 subjects, four health conditions were found to significantly increase the prevalence of spinal pain: cardiovascular disease by 58%; hypertension by 40%; diabetes by 25% and obesity by 34%.

Looking at all chronic health conditions, to***co use, inactivity, sleep problems, cognitive impairment and mental health conditions also significantly increased the prevalence odds of spinal pain compared to cases without spinal pain.

The authors concluded that the findings suggest more research is needed to investigate the management of spinal pain as a means of preventing and managing chronic health conditions.
