Job Description of an Interpreter
Building Community in New Hampshire (BCNH) is a tax exempt 501 C (3) nonprofit organization established in 2009 with the mission to create an enduring legacy of the New Americans’ heritage for future generations through stewardship of successful integration, and community contributions. BCNH is currently looking for dynamic, hardworking and innovative interpreters in various languages who are interested in making difference in people’s lives through active participation in BCNH activities. Interested candidates with strong interpretation and translation skills are highly encouraged to apply.
Summary
BCNH- Unite Languages interpreter is responsible for listening, understanding, and translating verbal or written statements from the English language to a targeted language and vice-versa. Reproduce statements in another language for Least English Speaking population-LESP by maintaining the proper register.
Interpreter processes information quickly and accurately, recognizes sensitive cultural differences in a professional and courteous manner and perform necessary cultural brokering at all times in a professional conduct. Interpreting or translating assignment may be technical or non-technical in healthcare, government services, banking, real state, and education industry.
BCNH- United Languages is actively seeking interpreters in the following languages: Spanish, Nepali, Hindi, Arabic, Somali, Burmese, Vietnamese, Kirundi, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, Urdu, Rohingya, Bengali, and others. 50 hours of interpreting and translating tanning backed by certification will be provided free of cost to the selected candidates. Trained interpreters are required to take 10 hours of online training.
Responsibilities
BCNH- Unite Languages Interpreter Must:
Facilitate effective communication between assigned parties that do not speak the same language by converting English language to targeted language and vice-versa through Video Remote Interpreting-VRI, Over the Phone Interpreting – OPI and in person as assigned.
Render clear and accurate interpretation between the targeted language pair without any addition, deduction, or omission in any case and with no exception.
Understand company norms, ethics & values, industry protocols, and language pair terminology in the healthcare, government services, banking, real state, and education industry.
Employ polite tone of expression maintaining professional customer service conduct with clear pronunciation and appropriate register.
Comply with the client’s instructions, facilitate the flow of the communication, and avoid leading the communication.
Conduct any interaction with the Limited English Speaking Person-LESP with client’s permission.
Maintain a professional conduct at all times.
Have regular electronic communication in terms of assignment and company requirements.
Deliver clarification and necessary cultural brokering using professional judgment and linguistic skill sets.
Exhibit commitment to cultural sensitivity and must be dependable to work in a multiculturaly diverse work environment.
Qualifications
BCNH-Unite Languages Interpreter Must have:
At least two years of college education required, bachelor’s degree in linguistic and literature preferred which can be substituted in lieu of 60 hrs. of Bridging the Gap -BTG Training done in the USA.
Complete VRI and OPI platform training and pass the internal readiness assessment before taking live calls.
Ability to concentrate and to stay detached from the conversation, remaining neutral and objective at all times and following client’s instructions closely.
Participate in ongoing quality assurance and call monitoring programs.
Two years of verifiable Professional interpreting experience preferred, but not required.
Ability to interpret both in consecutive and simultaneous mode of interpreting.
Fluency in English and the respective targeted language and skilled in the associated cultural undercurrents.
Excellent note-taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy and professional appearance.
Capability to explain idiomatic expressions and cultural distinctions to avoid miscommunication.
Have a land line telephone for OPI and Landline Internet connection with 1.5 mbps upload and 5 mbps download capacity for VRI. Telephonic Interpretation from a cell phone and Video Remote Interpretation from WIFI are both unacceptable.
