On , Torrington Senior Counselor Kelly O’Heron and Counselor II Melissa Luna attended a Su***de Prevention Resource Fair to connect with the community and share important information about Root’s Mental Health Services. We were so touched by how many people came to talk with us, and their notes on our board were heartwarming.

Congratulations to Kate Spencer, for your promotion to Nurse Supervisor at the Torrington Clinic! Kate is currently a per diem nurse serving both the Bristol and Torrington locations and been with Root since 2020. In that time, she had held the title of Nursing Supervisor for Bristol from 2022-2023, and we are so excited to have Kate return to a leadership role within the nursing team. Patients and staff will benefit from her commitment and kindness. Congratulations Kate, we know you'll thrive!

For this ***dePreventionMonth, Root Center would like to spotlight one of our long time partners, Senator Saud Anwar. Senator Anwar is a huge advocate for mental health needs in the state and country, and has helped spearhead legislation to implement several initiatives, spoken on our Community Forum Panels, joins us every year at our International Overdose Awareness Day event in August, and works with his colleagues to try to create positive change around substance use in Connecticut. Thank you, Senator, for all of your support, hard work, and dedication to mental health and overdose prevention.

Our observations went all across the state. Over the weekend, Central Admissions Clinical Supervisor Rozalyn Davila went to Rocky Hill Human, Youth, and Senior Services Second Annual Prevention Palooza to share with the community Root Center's prevention and harm reduction initiatives, along with our services. And all the way over on the coast, Our New London Clinic went to the Ocean Beach Overdose awareness Event. Counselors Mya Petchark, Elizabeth Rodriguez, and Justin MacCormack spent the evening sharing information, hearing stories from the community, and participating in the memorial ceremony in memory of those lose to the disease of addiction. We are so proud to be able to have facilities across the state to reach as many communities as possible, and offer our services to the people who need us most.
