I literally talked to a client yesterday about all this 😂 the negative word usage of “only” when there is so much more going on than just dilation (cervical placement, ripening, effacement).
And then when talking about types of augmentation for stalled labor we talked about ni**le and cl****al stimulation. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 just part of it 😘

I had one of the best hospital experiences of my 13 year career this past week at Highpoint Health - Wi******er ! Every single L&D nurse was absolutely supportive and respectful of my clients even when their plans changed. They knew she wanted to labor as naturally as possible with no interventions unless either needed or wanted, and that is exactly what my clients got. Their bedside manners were phenomenal to say the least!
Thank you to all the wonderful nurses and staff that supported my clients 🙏🏼💪🏼❤️

Breastmilk is AMAZING 👏🏻

“•Water makes up about 87% of breast milk, crucial for keeping the baby hydrated and maintaining bodily fluids. It ensures that breast milk is easily digestible and provides necessary hydration for the infant's system.

•Lactose, the primary carbohydrate, is a significant energy source for the baby. It plays a vital role in brain and nervous system development, aids calcium absorption, and promotes the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.

•Fat in breast milk offers essential fatty acids like DHA and ARA, important for brain development and visual acuity. Fats support the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) and are crucial for overall growth.

•Proteins in breast milk, primarily whey and casein, are essential for immune function, tissue repair, and the production of enzymes and hormones. Whey protein is easily digestible, while casein provides a steady supply of amino acids.

•Breastmilk is rich in vitamins necessary for various bodily functions. Vitamin A supports vision and immune health, vitamin D is crucial for bone health, vitamin E acts as an antioxidant, and vitamin K is essential for blood clotting.

•Minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc are present in breast milk. Calcium is vital for bone growth, iron for red blood cell formation, magnesium for muscle and nerve function, and zinc for immune function and DNA synthesis.

•Antibodies, particularly immunoglobulin A (IgA), form a protective layer in the baby’s intestines, boosting the immune system and guarding against infections.

•Enzymes like lipase and amylase aid in digesting fats and carbohydrates, enhancing nutrient absorption, which is crucial for early growth.

•Hormones in breast milk, such as leptin and ghrelin, regulate appetite and metabolism, helping control hunger cues and supporting healthy weight gain.

•Oligosaccharides, the third most abundant component, promote beneficial gut bacteria growth and prevent harmful bacteria adhesion, supporting digestive health and boosting immune function.”

Many studies show an increase in postpartum depression (PPD) and PTSD in women who have had a cesarean section.

Postpartum PTSD and/or depression can lead to poorer outcomes within the mother-child relationship as well as other serious and threatening effects for both mother and baby.

With the c-section rate of developed countries sitting between 28%-32%, the rate of PPD and postpartum PTSD reflects the cesarean rate.

Are you taking care of yourself?

According to the most recent Tennessee Maternal Mortality Report, the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths was cardiovascular disease (CVD) and coronary disease. Data from the California Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review (CA-PAMR) supports this finding and noted factors that contributed to CVD-related mortality. From the patient perspective, the CA-PAMR found pre-existing medical conditions to be a factor in 64% of deaths. Other contributing factors included obesity (31%), delays in seeking care (31%), and lack of recognition of CVD symptoms (22%).
