To all of our patients:
The World Health Organization released a statement claiming that all dentistry should be avoided at this time, and this statement has found its way through many media sources and social sites. While the WHO deals with health situations and concerns around the world and the variables within that, we would like to let our patients know that the American Dental Association does not agree with their assessment for treatment here in the US.

CHICAGO, August 12, 2020 —The American Dental Association (ADA) respectfully yet strongly disagrees with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendation to delay “routine” dental care in certain situations due to COVID-19.

“Oral health is integral to overall health. Dentistry is essential health care,” states ADA President Chad P. Gehani, D.D.S. “Dentistry is essential health care because of its role in evaluating, diagnosing, preventing or treating oral diseases, which can affect systemic health.”

Dr. Gehani added that in March, when COVID-19 cases began to rise in the U.S., the ADA called for dentists to postpone all but urgent and emergency care in order to understand the disease, consider its effect on dental patients, dental professionals and the greater community.

Both the ADA and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) then issued interim guidance for dental professionals related to COVID-19. The ADA’s guidance calls for the highest level of PPE available—masks, goggles and face shields. The ADA’s interim guidance also calls for the use of rubber dams and high velocity suction whenever possible and hand scaling when cleaning teeth rather than using ultrasonic scaling to minimize aerosols.

Dr. Gehani concludes, “Millions of patients have safely visited their dentists in the past few months for the full range of dental services. With appropriate PPE, dental care should continue to be delivered during global pandemics or other disaster situations.”

We hope this reassurance from the ADA, and also any information we are able to give in regards to how our office is keeping our patients and staff safe, will help with any concerns you may have seeing us for treatment. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

To all of our patients:

We hope that all of you have been able to stay safe and well during these last few weeks of uncertainty. Many things have changed due to COVID 19, and we think it’s safe to say that we are looking forward to resuming our regular routine in the future. As our office works towards resuming full patient care, our commitment to patient and staff safety has remained a constant.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice, and even more so now as we wish to make our patients feel safe and comfortable when you come for your visits. We want to tell you what procedures will be in place when you see us.

We are following the guidelines and recommendations as stated by the American Dental Association (ADA), the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). They regularly update their standard of care and we follow their activities in order to remain up to date with any rulings or guidance given. For right now, you will see these changes:

1. Our office will ask you screening questions when booking your appointment. We will also ask these questions when you enter our office.

2. There is hand sanitizer at the front desk. We will ask you to use that when you enter. There is also hand sanitizer throughout the office that we will all reapply on a regular basis.

3. Our office has removed toys and magazines from the waiting room for easier cleaning and disinfecting.

4. Our appointments will be longer and staggered for scheduling. This will allow staff time to thoroughly clean and disinfect their rooms. It is also designed for social distancing. However, this may mean our flexibility for scheduling will decrease.

5. We will be limiting the amount of patients in our waiting room. You will notice missing chairs for that purpose. We may also ask you to remain in your car until you receive a text message asking you to come up for your appointment.

We look forward to seeing all of you again and of course, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We will be calling patients to reschedule appointments as our schedule allows and of course, if you would like to make an appointment, please contact us at 668-0227 or use the “make an appointment” request feature at leonardattisanodmd.com. We hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Leonard Attisano, DMD and Staff
