Mancos Gear Share Mission
The MGS is a nonprofit, community sponsored project for youth and families in SW Colorado Sponsors & Donors
Mancos Creative District
Alpacka Raft Co.

Partners in Planning and Completion:
The Mancos Gear Share is a collaborative project between the Mancos School District, the Mancos Public Library, Mancos Valley Resources, the Mancos Creative District and the Outdoors Empowered Network (OEN). OEN has helped similar groups establish gear lending libraries across the country and has been a valuable resource in helping with the early stages of pla

nning the gear library, connecting the local planning committee with a network of similar gear libraries and resources as well as utilizing their cooperative buying power to help secure donations and deep discounts of outdoor gear. Friends of the Mancos Library

Mancos Gear Share Goals:
The Mancos Gear Share project is a community-wide effort with a simple goal of getting more young people and their families to enjoy healthy outdoor pursuits. The most common barriers for those that would like to experience outdoor recreation are lack of representation, opportunities, access to expensive gear, programs that are facilitated by community members that have familiarity with underserved populations, and access to trusted & knowledgeable people to help them learn how to recreate in the outdoors in and emotionally and physically safe way. The Mancos Gear Share project is addressing these barriers by first establishing a gear-lending library--built on local and national monetary and in-kind donations--and secondly by building a group of community volunteers and organizations to help establish workshops, activities and programs to facilitate the safe use and enjoyment of the Mancos Gear Share equipment. The long-view is for the Mancos Gear Share to become a community based, inclusive, volunteer and youth-centered organization that provides programming and activities that utilize its outdoor equipment to introduce and sustain an interest and love for healthy recreation in the outdoors.

The MGS desperately needs a volunteer that can dedicate 2-4 hours a week to make this project fully operational. Please spread the word and let me know if you or someone you know is interested.

Final Fundraising Push! MGS will be open to the public on 8/31/23! Sponsor Ed Whritner's CTClassic "bike-a-thon" to help the MGS raise the funds needed for a needed storage & shop structure in Cottonwood park ($4-5K). Here's the deal: Make a pledge here for every mile that Ed completes in the Colorado Trail Classic

The CT Classic is a grueling, one-day 75 mile singletrack route on the CO Trail from Molas Pass to Durango. It's a beast just to finish. If you'd like to help, DM me through the MGS page here with the amount you'd like to pledge per mile ($0.50 minimum), and once the race is complete I will send you the link for the MGS account through the Mancos Valley Resources. Message for more details if needed, and thanks in advance!

ISO a 20' shipping container or large shed-structure for a low price OR a 2 year loaner. We are poised to open August 31st to the public, and we've got more gear than we have space for! We have a plan for a formal space in 2 years, but for now we'll need to operate out of temporary spaces (i.e. containers) in Cottonwood Park. Spead the word!
