Reflections from our Human Herd! 🐴✨💗

This summer was a blast at Medicine Horse! I loved spending time with youth who not only learned more about the horses, but also discovered new things about themselves and their connection to the natural world. We had fun exploring trust, communication, and confidence through our time with the herd, and even brought in art activities to tap into creativity and self-expression. Watching participants light up with curiosity—whether while brushing a horse, noticing the quiet beauty of the landscape, or creating something colorful—was a highlight of the season. I’m so grateful for the laughter, growth, and discovery we shared this summer.

As the seasons shift, I’m excited to share that our fall programs will be starting soon! Stay tuned for details, and we’d love for you to join us for more opportunities to connect with the horses, yourself, and the natural world.

Summer Programs Photo Collage Recap!!!

We just finished up Summer programming with the Ute Mountain Ute tribe,
Mancos Summer Hub and The Hive all pictured). Through these partnerships we supported youth in cultivating deeper self-awareness through connection to horses, reflective art processes and the land. Each program had its own focus such as compassion, creativity, leadership and overall summer time fun. We embarked on many art projects including horse shoe painting, beading, superhero drawings, kindness rocks and many more. We love providing space to explore internal and external landscapes. We cannot wait for Fall programs to begin this coming week!

Celebrated our 25th Birthday yesterday with the Mancos 1st Graders!!!

We explored the 5 senses with the land, horses and art. There were so many thoughtful reflections and so much creativity on this beautiful fall day. We are so grateful to our community and for this magical place that we call home. Here’s to another 25 together 🎉🎉🎉

We raised just over 10k in youth scholarships for our therapy and wellness programs. We had a great time playing on the course for a good cause and are already looking forward to next years!

Calling All Golfers!

I know many of you are weary after the Pinto Bean this past weekend, but our kids need you!

The 16th Annual Medicine Horse 4-Person Scramble is this Saturday, August 23rd, at Conquistador Golf Course. This tournament raises money for our youth education and therapy programs at Medicine Horse, by funding scholarships. Each scholarship means that our young folks can build strong peer-to-peer relationships, learn effective communication skills, become strong leaders, and help improve their outlook on life.

Come be part of building up our young folks — play the links and help set strong foundations. We appreciate your support!

Summer Program Recap with !!!

As we wind down from a buzzing summer here we’re taking a look back at all the fun programs… We had a BLAST with Wild Hive playing games, making tye dye bandanas, meeting and grooming the horses, painting old horse shoes and giving them new life on a sculpture in our garden. The Hive’s value of the week was COMPASSION so we explored the ways that connecting horses can foster care for ourselves and others. Thank you for coming out Wild Hive and for leaving an imprint on Medicine Horse with your beautiful horseshoes!

Reflections from our Human Herd!

Summer! What a fun and HOT time to visit Medicine Horse. We are excited to be hosting youth from the Mancos Summer Hub, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and The Hive. My favorite part of our summer programs is watching the connections that are happening with the horses. These youth are thoughtful and kind with our beloved herd and when we ask for a highlight of the day the most common answer is “hanging with the horses.” I am also enjoying watching all of the creativity abound during our art projects. We’ve seen amazing Self Super Heroes, colorful beaded bracelets, and clay figures like saber-toothed unicorns, horses, and bowls. And overarching it all is the magic that is Medicine Horse: themes of leadership, communication, and connection to self and others that are embedded in every activity. I am grateful for work that leaves me feeling impactful and grounded at the end of the day and for the youth that show up and bring their full selves out to play.
