Dolly Feland

Marie (Dolly) Feland, 99, of Mandan, formerly of Almont, ND passed away July 17, 2025 at Edgewood Mandan under the care of hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 26th at the Almont Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Almont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, July 25th at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.

Marie (Dolly) Feland, daughter of Tim and Clara Smith Cronin, was born on April 26, 1926, in Flasher, ND.

In 1930, when Dolly was 4 years old, her mother passed away at the time of her brother’s birth. Neighbors cared for her brother until he returned to live with Dolly and her dad in 1938. Dolly grew up on their farm along the Heart River, 14 miles north of Flasher. When she was a little girl, her dad called her “Dolly”, and the name stayed with her.

Dolly attended Big Ben country school four miles from their farm, and she relied on her trusted horse Paddy to take her safely across the river to school. As a teenager, Dolly enjoyed going to dances at the Big Heart Hall. She later met Art Feland when he and George Bruington rode into their yard looking to buy horses. The couple married in January 1949, and moved to Art’s ranch at Almont, ND. Together they raised four children. After Art passed away, Dolly continued to live on the ranch until 2013 when she moved to a twin home in Mandan.

Dolly loved cooking and baking and enjoyed entertaining guests. Everyone was always welcome at their house for caramel rolls and coffee or a great meal. She often hosted the neighborhood kids for swimming and outdoor activities. She was a cub scout leader for many years and very active in the community. Dolly was always ready with a care package for anyone she thought might need a little cheer.

Dolly spent much of her time outdoors which included fishing, berry picking, gardening, and yard work. She also loved traveling. One of her favorite trips was to Alaska where she had the opportunity to fish on the Kenai Peninsula. In later years, Dolly met Luke Fast and they shared many good times together dancing, fishing, and playing cards with friends.

Dolly had a lot of determination and grit. In her younger years, she competed in horse racing, and she was tough to beat. At 83, she shot a buck though the heart with her shot gun, and a skunk or a raccoon never had a chance in her yard.

Dolly had a lifelong yearning to locate her maternal half-sister. Her dream was recently realized, and though her sister had passed away, she was delighted to meet some of her nieces and nephews with whom she cherished spending time.

Dolly is survived by her daughters: Carol Hoovestol, Bismarck, Joan (Roger) Hoovestol, Mandan; Son, Tim Feland, Maricopa, AZ; grandchildren: Kay (Jim) Pexa, Kim (Brandon) Leingang, Scott (Kendra) Hoovestol, Russ (Laura) Hoovestol, Randy (Michelle) Hoovestol, Ryan (K**a) Hoovestol, Brita Feland, Clay Feland; 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art; son, Calvin; brother, George; half-sisters: Janet Cronin, Nona Beatty; son-in-law, Warren Hoovestol; and special friend, Luke Fast

The family extends a very sincere thank you to the staff at Edgewood Mandan (assisted living and memory care) and Caring Edge hospice staff.

On September 26, 1949, in Riverdale, ND, Erma and Elmer Broneske welcomed their first child Barbara into the world. She was the fourth Broneske cousin born that year and they were referred to as the “49ers”. She was raised north of Turtle Lake, ND and attended a country school until the first grade. Her father went into road construction where they moved around until settling in Commerce City, CO. Barbara graduated from Adam City High School in 1967. Barb attended Bottineau and Bismarck State College where she received an Associate Degree in Business Communications.

During the summer months she would stay with her grandparents Louie & Hazel Rasmussen in Turtle Lake where she met the love of her life. Barb married the love of her life, Calvin Schell, on September 20, 1969. Calvin’s job took him to numerous cities before they settled in Bismarck, ND. She was a stay-at-home mother to three daughters. She then went to work for the North Dakota Game & Fish where she was a secretary for the Enforcement Division. After 20 years, Barb retired and she and Cal took many trips during their retirement. After being snowbirds for a few years, they made their residence in Apache Junction.

Barb fought Parkinson’s Disease for 15 years and Calvin rarely left her side. He was the most devoted caretaker to her. Per her wishes, her body was donated for Parkinson’s Reasearch hoping that someday soon there will be a cure.

She will be deeply missed for her great hugs, her contagious smile, and her love for family...especially her grandchildren.

Barb is survived by her husband of 55 years, Calvin; daughters, Chrissy Nelson (Pat Bieber), Melissa Stroklund, & Rebecca Schell, all of Bismarck; grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Hogue of Grand Forks, Kevin Bontrager II of Fenton, MI, Isaac Schell of Rochester, MN, & Kayden Stroklund of Bismarck, and one sister, Sharon Sparks of Federal Heights, CO.

Sistene A. Danielson

Sistene Ann Danielson, age 20 of New Salem, passed away on July 3, 2025, in Bismarck, ND.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Peace Church in New Salem, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in Walhalla, ND on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 12:30 PM.

Sistene was born to Tim and Jenny (Dearinger) Danielson on September 8, 2004, in Bismarck, ND. She was a little sister to Tovah and a big protective sister to Shea. She attended New Salem School, graduating in 2023. She had been taking classes at BSC for Social Work, with dreams of opening her own therapy clinic one day. She also worked at Elm Crest Manor, Margi’s Daycare, CEF, and HIT Inc.

Growing up, Sistene loved taking care of her animals, especially milking her goats. She loved riding 4-wheeler, going for car rides, and listening to her favorite music like NF, Hamilton, and Epic. She enjoyed playing percussion, starring in state music competition a couple of times. She often wrote down her feelings in journals. She had a big heart, always trying to help everyone around her. She could make friends easily and had friends all over the world.

Sistene’s faith was very important to her, and she loved sharing it. We are so grateful God gave us this wonderful, loving, generous girl. Over the past few years, she struggled with her mental health more than we will ever know. We miss her more than words can say, but she had no doubt that she’d be in Heaven and welcomed by papa’s tight embrace. Revelations 21:4 was an important life verse to her: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Her last selfless act was giving others the gift of life by donating her organs to those in need.

The family would like to thank the New Salem Ambulance, Morton County Sheriff’s Department, and all of her medical providers.

Sistene is survived by her parents, Tim and Jenny; sisters, Tovah and Shea; grandma, Linda Dearinger; uncles and aunts, Steve and Karen Danielson, Danny Dearinger, Laura and Ken Wiebe, Alex Dearinger, Jeff and Charissa Danielson, Summer and Perrin Goetzfridt, Glenn Danielson, James Dearinger, Kim Dearinger; cousins, Isaac and Ean Dearinger, Cori Hartje, Dawn Hauck, Rich Danielson, Micah and Finley Goetzfridt, Tony, Wade and Guy Danielson, Sarah Danielson, Rebekah Hill, Brian and Jonathan Wiebe, and Lindsay Baker.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donald and Marie Danielson and “Papa” Robert Dearinger.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Morton County Sheriff’s Department or the New Salem Ambulance.

Martin Wright

Martin E. Wright, 97, Mandan, formerly of Flasher, passed away, Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Edgewood Care Center in Mandan. Memorial service will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 9 with Pastor Bethany Haberstroh officiating at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home in Mandan. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8 from 5-7 PM at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service.

Martin was born October 16, 1927, in Grant County, ND to Estel and Gunhild (Sakrison) Wright. He was raised north of Flasher and graduated from Flasher High School before enlisting in the Army and serving during the Korean War.

Mart was 60+ year member of the Flasher American Legion and was proud of anyone who served. Over the years he enjoyed bowling, playing whist, snowmobiling with friends and racing. He would also venture to the neighbors and “check their furnace”, go on fishing trips to Canada and make an occasional trip to PKC. Deer season was a highlight for him, participating and enjoying all the family that gathered for the two-week season in November. Countless games of checkers were played too with his grandchildren and great grandchildren where they found him hard to beat. The farm door was always open and his “furnace was checked” by friends and relatives too.

On September 19, 1951, Martin married Josephine Novotny in Flasher, ND and the two shared nearly 67 years together. They started their home after Martin’s discharge from the Army and resided on Jo’s family farm, south of Judson. They worked together for 46 years and raised their family of five before moving into Flasher the fall of 1997. Martin never lost his love for the land or his cattle. His hobby was his farm and ranch work and he could fix just about anything. He had a passion for his H, Super MTA, 4020’s and Gleaner combines. Harvest was always a special time when lining up the Gleaners to bring in the crop. Countless hours were also spent chopping corn and packing silage. He had no patience for a slow truck driver or someone that couldn’t drive straight while cultivating. After moving to Flasher, he faithfully made daily trips to the farms and found himself engaged in the daily activities. Up until the fall of 2023, you could still find him taking minerals to the various pastures and checking on the livestock.

Martin shared his 97 years with many and it has been said that he helped shape the lives of nephews and nieces during their summers spent “on the farm”. They too found out that there was always one way to do things, and it was his way.

Martin is survived by his children: Ron (Patricia), Iris (Gary), Lori (Rob), Nola (Mark) & daughter-in-law Mary; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Josephine; son, Todd; sister, Mary; brothers, Marvin “Robert”, Merrel Dean, John & Francis.

Special thanks go out to the Staff at Mandan Edgewood Assisted Living Facility, Legacy Medical, Caring Edge Home Health & Hospice. Your care and concern was phenomenal.

Memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, 1825 46th St., Mandan, ND 58554.
