****COUNCILMAN TO VISIT AUTUMN WIND****

Hello Neighbors,

Based on concerns that have been brought up in recent months, and due to the Parish's general lack of response to some of those issues, I requested a meeting with Councilman Arthur Laughlin, who represents District 11, which is where Autumn Wind is located.
In response, Councilman Laughlin has scheduled a meeting with Autumn Wind residents on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 12pm noon. The meeting will take place at the gazebo located in the green space in the center of our subdivision. Please bring a chair if you wish to sit down.

I've asked the Councilman to address general issues impacting our subdivision such as maintenance of the retention pond on Robert Rd., needed repairs to our streets, drainage concerns, and traffic congestion especially with the new subdivision being built on Hoffman. If there are any other specific topics or issues you wish the Councilman to address, please include them in your comments below. If you cannot attend but wish to have the Councilman address a specific topic or matter of concern, please let us know in the comments as well and I'll be sure to bring it up to him at the meeting.

If you plan to attend the meeting, please let me know below so I can provide the Councilman with a general headcount. Also, if you have a personal concern or matter (meaning something that affects only you or your household and not the subdivision as a whole) please do not use this forum or this meeting to try and have that issue addressed. I would advise that you contact the Councilman directly on such personal concerns and meet with him privately. If you wish to contact the Councilman, here is his information:

Autumn Wind Residents,

Our neighborhood is included in this water service disruption and boil advisory on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

Oct. 15 Update: GOOD NEWS: tonight’s scheduled water service interruption and related boil water advisory have been cancelled, as our team completed the repairs without impacting our citizens.

*Original Post Follows*

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024 beginning at 9 p.m., the Department of Utilities will shut off water service to customers along LA 59 between I-12 and Hoffman Rd. for a water main repair. Please prepare to be without water service for several hours over the night of October 15.

Once water service is restored, out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with Department of Health and Hospital regulations, a precautionary BOIL ADVISORY will be issued for the affected customers.

If you have any questions, please call the Department of Utilities at (985) 276-6400.

Good morning all!

When you have a chance, olease take a look at the information provided in this link. This is St Tammany Parish’s plan for future transportation (e.g., roads) projects. Once you review the plans you have the ability to submit comments.

Some of these projects have the potential to dramatically alter the current roadways in STP especially in the surrounding areas, so take a look and submit comments.

Hello ,

As you may have noticed, the Parish finally came and removed all the water Lillie’s and other excess vegetation from the pond. I know that in addition to me submitting online requests, a few residents have been calling them as well for a few months now, so glad to see they got it done! WST was also going around and changing out burned-out street lights, so that’s good!

We are also trying to get the lights for the sign on the Robert Rd entrance fixed. We are responsible for the lights so we’re in the process of getting a quote from an electrician. Hopefully we can have it fixed soon.

Things have been relatively quiet in AW which is a good thing. The lights and signs we installed at the gazebo seem to be doing to job. Ever since these were installed, the number of non-residents that were loitering there has been reduced to virtually zero, and there have been no late-night incidents.

Thank you to all who are dues paying members and continue to make it possible to keep our neighborhood clean. Also, thank you to our neighbors that lend their own personal time and effort at no charge to pitch in.

If you’re not a dues paying member we urge you to join to make sure Autumn Wind remains a beautiful neighborhood and safe for years to come. Dues are only $20 per month and they pay for street lights, the power to the entrances, for landscaping the pond and other green areas, and for other expenses like signs at the gazebo.

Don’t forget that you can pay your dues via PayPal. If you prefer to write a check, no problem, just send it to the PO Box. For those of you who prefer to pay annually, I’m asking that you send in your dues in January. This makes it easier to keep track of who’s paid for the year.

Don’t forget to check out our website at www.autumnwind.org

You can sign up for PayPal and you can also review financial reports. Thank you and hope everyone has Merry Christmas!!

On behalf of AWCA,

Ben Banchs

We were asked to share this by one of our residents, Debbie Popoff, who lives at 131 Autumn Wind:

I just wanted to let you know…someone stole my no parking in the grass sign from my yard. The sign was double faced. Two signs on one post. My yard was mowed Thursday, June 15th and it was in place at that time. Friday morning it and the entire post was on was stolen.

STATEWIDE NEWS RELEASE
August 8, 2022

Troopers Urge Motorists to Exercise Caution as Schools Resume Across the State

As the 2022-23 school year is beginning, Louisiana State Police would like to remind motorists to drive with extra care and be especially aware of school zone speed limits, school buses loading or unloading children, and children walking or biking to school. Troopers along with local law enforcement will be patrolling school zones throughout the state, and speeding will not be tolerated while school zone speed limits are in effect. Most school zones have a reduced speed limit from 7:00-9:00 am and 2:00-4:00 pm. However, some zones are marked with slightly different times, and it is the responsibility of motorists to be aware of these speed zones and to reduce their speed accordingly.

A school bus is designed to be the safest vehicle on the road, but the greatest risk to our school-age children is the loading and unloading of children at bus stops. As a reminder to motorists, all vehicular traffic must stop no less than 30 feet from a school bus when the stop signals on the bus are activated. A vehicle approaching a stopped school bus from the opposite direction does not have to stop when traffic is separated by a divided median, but must remain cautious of the children boarding or exiting the bus.

Additionally, motorists are encouraged to remember that:

•Louisiana Law states that no person shall operate any wireless communication device, which includes texting and any social media, while operating a motor vehicle during the posted hours within a school zone. School zones across Louisiana are hands-free zones, so put that cell phone down while driving

• School crossing guards have the authority to direct vehicles through intersections when traffic lights are red and to stop vehicles when the traffic lights are green. Motorists who are approaching school zones are urged to pay attention to the school crossing guards for hand instructions.

Motorists should expect traffic congestion and possible delays near school zones. It is important for each driver to be patient with the increased traffic and allow extra time to arrive safely at their destination. Remember to always buckle up and insist that ALL occupants in the vehicle are buckled up as well. Keeping these safety tips in mind will help assure a safe school year not only for our children, but for the motoring public as well.

We’ve been asked to share this with AW residents. The STP Council is considering rezoning the large swath of relatively empty land located between I-12/1088 exit and HWY 36 almost all the way to Abita from LOW-IMPACT RESIDENTIAL to HEAVY IMPACT INDUSTRIAL.

The only structures that are currently within the boundaries of this area are Lakeshore HS and the Abita Airport.

Opponents are concerned that the rezoning would allow the construction of giant warehouses and other commercial/industrial-type buildings and business that would dramatically change the current landscape of St. Tammany Parish, as well as further aggravate traffic especially the increase of large construction and commercial vehicles, drainage, and population density. Some are making comparisons to the Industrial Canal area under the High Rise in New Orleans East

Those concerned with the potential future impact of such a rezoning are urging others to sign the petition below. They are also urging local residents attend the STP Council meeting that will take place on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 5pm, and also the subsequent Zoning and Planning Meeting on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, also at 5pm. These meetings will be where the zoning for this area will be presented and possibly approved by the Council.

We urge you to read the petition. Also, please take a look at this web site:
