My tips travel as a diabetes NP: keep meds ON you. (Carry-on); have a back up plan (bring extra syringes, pens and pen needles in case pumps fail or malfunction. Batteries and charger banks / you can’t have enough! Glp1’s can stay room temp 4-5 weeks. Insulin around 1 month then it can denature (the molecules break down and don’t work as strong).
You do get an extra carry on bag fyi, so take advantage of that! Register online or at most international airports for a daisy card .us. This identifies you as a person with medical needs, allowing for priority boarding too plus flight attendants know ahead of time to give you some extra TLC 🌻
They will often “swipe” or wipe your devices - but notifying the attendant ahead of time before walking through can be helpful. While a travel letter may seem a bit antiquated, I still like to use this practice because it’s another layer of support backing you up.
Let me know how else you think I should be preparing my patients? ✈️
