🎉VICTORY FOR PHARMACY FAIRNESS IN LOUISIANA! 🎉
Today, Governor Jeff Landry officially signed HB264 into law, marking a major step forward in holding pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) accountable and protecting local pharmacy access across Louisiana.

With this new law, Louisiana will now require PBM transparency, fairer reimbursement practices and stronger oversight — ensuring patients get fair prices, local access and better care.

There is a lot of information being thrown around regarding bills in the Louisiana legislature right now. There is a bill, HB358, that puts a separation between pharmacy benefit managers and pharmacy ownership. The biggest player in this is CVS Health. This umbrella company owns CVS/Pharmacy and various PBMs like CVS/Caremark. The separation would lead to fair pricing paid to all pharmacies, not just independently-owned but also Walgreens and WalMart and others. The way the system is now is that the PBM steers patients to their pharmacy (CVS) and away from other pharmacies. They also pay themselves significantly more than other pharmacies. Why would Rite Aid or Walgreens close hundreds of stores if they were getting fair reimbursements? Any closures of pharmacies would NOT be because of this bill but a corporate decision. Keep CVS open but pay us all fair. They choose to keep the PBM (the company that dictates pricing) because they make more there. Again, the bill is about fair pricing and reimbursements and not about closing pharmacies. In fact with fair pricing all can benefit.

Louisiana is on the forefront of PBM and insurance reform for drug pricing. The legislature is attacking these middlemen like Arkansas, Alabama and Ohio recently have. Enough is enough. Patients are being robbed, pharmacies are suffering and the PBM is profiting. Sign the petition and let your representatives know how you feel.
