“Talking about periods should not be a bad or stigmatized or taboo thing,” Dr. Rula Kanj tells TODAY.com, calling the potential ban a "restriction on talking about what’s normal biologically. It’s very disappointing.”

As Florida weighs a bill that would ban discussion of menstruation in elementary school, OB-GYNs share why it's important to education girls early.

4 million (recorded) COVID-19 deaths globally. New cases & deaths every day. The pandemic is far from over.

“Vaccine nationalism, where a handful of nations have taken the lion’s share, is morally indefensible and an ineffective public health strategy against a respiratory virus that is mutating quickly and becoming increasingly effective at moving from human-to-human.” - WHO director

Variants are currently winning the race against vaccines because of inequitable vaccine production and distribution, which also threatens the global economic recovery.  I have called repeatedly for 10 percent of people in all countries to be vaccinated by September and for that figure to rise to 40...

Community resources for folks in greater Cincinnati and elsewhere. There’s something in here for everyone — some local resources, some online. Feel free to share widely. Thanks to the UC/Christ family medicine program for compiling this.

Thank you to Dr. Megan Rich and Dr. Anna Goroncy for compiling these resources for our community members during these unprecedented times. Last updated 3/26/2020.

"There’s been a shortage of testing in the United States, so we don’t have an accurate idea of how many people – or what areas – have truly been affected.

"Individuals can shed the virus for up to 2 weeks before they get sick. That’s why the quarantine for COVID-19 is 14 days. You can be out and about standing by someone who is infectious but not yet sick. Alternatively, you could be the one who is positive and inadvertently spreading it to others. This is part of what explains the rapid spread of the disease. People don’t realize they are infectious.

"This is why social distancing is so important. By severely limiting our interactions with each other (even if we think we’re healthy), we have a chance of slowing the progress of the virus. If not, if COVID-19 spreads quickly and many people get sick at once, the U.S. won’t have the medical resources to take care of patients. Our situation could be similar to Italy and Germany where there is a shortage of ventilators for critically ill patients.

"I understand that the naysayers may be acting out of a false sense of security. Or, they may be downplaying the seriousness of the situation out of fear. But with lives at stake, we simply can’t afford to deny the danger.

"If we each do our part we will make a difference and flatten the curve. Look at polio, with global collaborative efforts polio is now 99% eliminated in the world. Today with the COVID-19 crisis, social distancing buys us the critical time we need to save lives."

Coronavirus is here. We know what we need to do to lessen the impact, but some people aren't on board. This doctor outlines the three most common arguments - and how she responds to them ...

Solace, an app to help transgender people with everything from safely navigating day-to-day interactions to legally or medically transitioning to their gender is now available for use.
Now available for Apple and Android devices, the free app includes materials on how to achieve different goals, and includes state-specific legal and civil rights information.

“Whether a user’s goals are legal, medical, or even lifestyle-related, Solace can help them achieve those goals," says McHugh, executive editor of Solace, in an announcement. "Additionally, Solace doesn’t dictate which goals a user needs to accomplish, which is unique when you look at any comparable resource out there."

Anthony, a trans woman and the executive director of Solace, says it was important to the team that they also make the resource available for free.

Super important information.

“While hormone therapy generally decreases fertility, it does not eliminate it altogether... In fact, even if hormone therapy has caused your periods to stop, you may still be ovulating. The need for birth control while on hormone therapy applies to those with pen*ses as well as those with vaginas, as estrogen does not always stop s***m from developing in the testicles.”

Hormone therapy won't prevent pregnancy.
