For nearly four years, I’ve been writing on substack about the tarot, astrology, shadow work, and how these can help us heal personally and collectively. Join me and Chef Elizabeth for an enchanting experience under the stars on November 5th.

We’ll start the evening off with a moon-infused manifestation ritual led by me! Working with candle magick and meditation, we’ll celebrate what we’re harvesting this fall and set our intentions for the season.

Chef E will keep the magick flowing with her harvest moon 6 course menu, celebrating both North African, Mediterranean & Middle Eastern cuisine. Enjoy all this under the stars in a gorgeous, private, outdoor venue with views of the Santa Monica Mountains.

WONDERING IF OR WHY YOU SHOULD DETOX?

While our bodies DO have a natural detoxing process, in our grind & hustle, chemical-laden culture, we need to offer extra support to this process with a detox that:

Simplifies our intake

AND

Stengthens the digestive process

SO THAT

Our bodies can detox on a deeper level.

So how do you know if you need to detox?

Below are signs that your body could a detox:

• Fatigue/sluggishness

• Low or rollercoaster energy levels

• Digestive distress (bloating, gas, acidity, etc.) and food allergies

• Dullness in the mind

• Allergies/sinus congestion

• Fatigue unrelieved by sleep

• Moodiness, irritability or anger

• Weight loss resistance

• Inflammation

• Itchy skin, rashes acne or rosacea

• Insomnia

• Headaches

• Increased belly or visceral fat

• Cravings and/or blood sugar issues

If you're noticing one or more of these symptoms, it's likely you have excess dosha in the body and/or ama (toxins) that are creating stress and compromising the function and efficiency of both the body AND the mind.

DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THOSE FARMERS MARKET VEGETABLES YOU PICKED UP?

The simple answer, just cook them!

You can roast or saute just about anything.

Combine it with a grain and/or protein and you’ve got a delicious and healthy meal.

HERE’S WHAT I PICKED UP THIS WEEK AND WHAT I DID WITH IT:
Chioggia beets
Kohlrabi
Carrots
Onion
Fresh Marjoram

(I supplemented a turnip from the store)

I made some short grain brown rice in the instant pot.

Then chopped up all veggies.

Green tops from the kohlrabi were chopped up and went in a pot with a little bit of water and ghee and steamed until wilted.

The rest of the veggies went on cookie sheets, dressed with a little sunflower oil and marjoram, salt and pepper.

Roasted at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes (flipping veggies after 20 minutes—onions went on for the last 10 minutes only).

After piling roasted veggies on the rice, I added some fresh made marjoram hummus! But store-bought hummus with a bit of marjoram sprinkled in it would work just as well!

Best part: I made enough for a delicious lunch again today.

CAN DETOXING BE EASY?

In Ayurveda, we approach our bodies with tenderness and ease because we understand that the body is the home of our spirit, heart and soul.

But sometimes, our homes need a good cleaning.

There may be excess dosha in the body that creates imbalance.

Or toxins accumulated from our chemical-crazy culture or from our own digestive troubles.

To do this “cleaning,” it’s important to do it gently.

When we take drastic steps to cleanse/detox by radically restricting food intake or overwhelming ourselves with meal planning and complicated detox recipes, it stresses out the mind and body.

That is NOT an optimal state for the body to effectively detox.

If the body is stressed, it tends to hold onto things. Even toxins.

Instead, Ayurveda recommends we do a gentle detox that purifies, nourishes and energizes.

The holidays are coming!

And no matter what you celebrate, you’re likely to have some big meals ahead of you.

And sure, it’s fine on occasion to indulge. But it can be a slippery slope when we over-indulge on Thanksgiving, and the indulging snowballs until 2022 rolls around. 😬

While in the moment those feasts are fantastic, the next days (or weeks) we may be feeling all that comes with overdoing it:

+ sluggishness
+ feeling full and heavy
+ digestive issues
+ low energy
+ moodiness
+ and worst of all, guilt 😝

But there's a way to enjoy holiday meals without all of that.

I call it intentional feasting.

Feeling hopeless or depressed?

Ayurveda suggests a simple practice to heal your spirit.
 
Wake up before dawn.

Go outside and walk towards the sun as it rises over the horizon to greet you.

Feel the light on your face and notice how this makes you feel.
 
The sun returns to us each day, lighting up our lives and energizing our bodies.

Open up your arms and your heart to receive this brightness in your life.

Remind yourself that this light always shines within you.
