About Us
At Sanctuary, we believe, and research shows, that trauma healing necessitates the repair of the nervous system and new understandings about ourselves and others. We created Sanctuary to provide a space for healing that uses both somatic and cognitive therapies to help clients create and access internal resources, address specific maladaptive coping behaviors that clients use to manage their trauma responses, increase emotional regulation and stabilization, increase an inner sense of safety, and improve overall functioning in daily life.
In order to cope with unhealed trauma, clients often develop certain coping strategies such as eating disorders, substance use disorders, self-injurious behaviors, and mood disorders. Many clients we have treated over the years end up going into an inpatient or residential facility due to the severity of their maladaptive coping behaviors.
In working with clients who have a trauma who have gone to inpatient or residential treatment, we regularly have encountered two barriers:
