Breaking Silence on Su***de in Mauritius

Lately, the news has been filled with heartbreaking stories of young lives lost to su***de 💔. Each time I read one, it weighs heavily on me — not just as a psychologist, but as a fellow human being. Behind every headline is someone’s child, sibling, or friend carrying pain too heavy to bear alone.

I know the reality… therapy can feel expensive, stigma is real, and many people hide their struggles. But I want you to know this: your life is worth far more than any fee, and your pain deserves to be heard. If you are struggling, please reach out—to me, to Befrienders Mauritius, or someone you trust. There is always a way forward, and you are never alone. 🌈

Here’s what I’ve learned through my work:

🌱 Silence is dangerous. Talking about your feelings doesn’t make you weak—it makes you human.

🤗 Hope comes in small acts. A simple text saying “I’m thinking of you,” a colleague or teacher who listens, a safe space at school—these little gestures can save lives.

🔒 Safety saves lives. Reducing access to harmful items can give someone precious time to hold on.

🤝 Community heals. Su***de prevention is about more than policies—it’s about us, checking in on each other, and genuinely asking, “Are you okay?”

💬 If you are struggling:
👉 Reach out. Even one conversation can change everything.
👉 And if you notice someone withdrawing, don’t ignore it. A simple “I’m here for you” can make a world of difference.

📌 For parents, teachers, colleagues:

👂 Listen without judgment. Sometimes people just need a safe space to be heard.
🕊️ Normalize emotions. It’s okay to cry, to feel sad, to feel overwhelmed. This doesn’t make anyone weak.
🔍 Notice changes. Withdrawal, loss of interest, constant fatigue, or sudden anger may be silent cries for help.
🫂 Stay connected. Share meals, check in daily, or just spend quiet time together. Connection is protective.
📞 Encourage support. Remind them that seeking professional help is brave—and offer to go with them if they’re scared.

🏢 At work and school: create safe spaces where people know it’s okay to speak openly without fear of gossip or judgment.

💛 Remember: Help is real. Hope is real. And you are never, ever alone.

With love,
Meerani🌸

🧠🥬 Your Gut Could Be Affecting Your Mood 🇲🇺

Feeling anxious, low, or foggy? Research shows your gut health might be playing a bigger role than you think.

🔬 A 2024 study in Nature Communications found that a healthier, more diverse gut microbiome is linked to lower anxiety and depression. Your brain and gut are constantly communicating — what you eat can shape how you feel.

🇲🇺 In Mauritius, our diets are tasty but often high in oil, sugar, and processed foods — which may throw off this balance.

✅ Try this:
✔️ More local veggies + fibre
✔️ Natural yoghurt or fermented foods
✔️ Less fried/snack foods
✔️ Move your body & stay hydrated

A healthy gut supports a healthy mind. Let’s care for both.

🌼 Life Updates & Gratitudes 💛

Hello, lovely community ✨

It’s been a little while since I’ve shared here, and I wanted to take a moment to reconnect and offer a heartfelt update 💬🌿

Since the creation of this page, life has taken me through some incredibly beautiful and demanding transitions. I became a mama to a wonderful baby boy 👶💙—a journey filled with immense joy, learning, and its fair share of challenges.

Balancing my role as a psychologist 🧠, working on-site 💼, managing a home 🏡, and staying engaged in meaningful pursuits 🌱 has been no small task. In the midst of it all, staying consistently present here became difficult.

As a working mother myself, I deeply understand the unique pressures of juggling multiple roles—sometimes losing sight of your own needs or quietly carrying a heavy load 💭🧸.

I’m passionate about supporting **women—especially mothers—**through life’s transitions 👩‍👧‍👦❤️ Offering a compassionate space to explore your feelings, gain clarity, and rediscover balance is at the heart of what I do 🤝💬

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities this profession brings 🙏, for the trust of those I work with 💗, and for the unwavering support of my amazing peers 👥 Their encouragement has been a true gift, both personally and professionally.

🌟 Exciting news!
I’ve recently started offering consultations at Royal Green Moka 🌿 in addition to my private practice. Whether you prefer in-person or a more personal setting, I’m here to support you wherever you feel most comfortable 🤗

Now that my little one is becoming more independent 🧒 and life has found a steadier rhythm ⏳, I finally have a little more space to reconnect—with you, this page, and the conversations that truly matter 💬🌸

Looking forward to catching up, sharing insights, and growing together—one step at a time 🪴💫

With warmth and gratitude,
Meerani 🕊️

🌟 Finding Support When Childhood Trauma Still Hurts 🌟

Hey everyone,

As a psychologist, I often hear from individuals who are carrying the weight of childhood trauma into their adult lives. If you're struggling with unresolved issues from your past and are looking for someone to talk to, you’re not alone. It's a brave first step to reach out, and it’s crucial to understand that there are effective ways to start healing.

🔹 Acknowledge Your Feelings: It's okay to feel overwhelmed or confused by your emotions. Recognizing and validating your feelings is the first step towards healing.

🔹 Seek Professional Help: Therapy can provide a safe space to explore and understand your experiences. A licensed mental health professional can offer guidance and support tailored to your needs.

🔹 Build a Support Network: Surround yourself with people who listen without judgment. Sometimes, sharing your experiences with trusted friends or family members can be comforting and helpful.

🔹 Practice Self-Care: Engage in activities that nurture your well-being, whether it's through exercise, mindfulness, or hobbies that bring you joy.

Remember, healing is a journey, not a destination. Be patient and kind to yourself as you navigate this path. If you're ready to take the next step, don’t hesitate to reach out for support.

You deserve to heal and thrive. 💚

The effects of child abuse and neglect can have lasting repercussions on young adults. 🧸

They may struggle with mental health issues, including anxiety and depression. These experiences can hinder their ability to form healthy relationships, trust others, and engage in self-care. Academic and career prospects may also be affected, leading to difficulties in achieving personal and professional goals.💭

‼️I have come across young adults, specifically those aged between 19 to 21, who have expressed their mental health challenges but have faced financial constraints in accessing psychological support. As a result, they are currently experiencing difficulties in various aspects of their lives.

💡💡Exclusive for young adults aged 19-21, seize the opportunity to access affordable and compassionate appointments spanning 3 months, including the initial session and follow-ups.
Don't let financial barriers 🪙hinder your mental well-being.

I empathize with your struggles and am here to lend a helping hand. Take the first step towards healing and growth.
