Spinal stenosis commonly occurs in the cervical and lumbar areas of the spine. It is a narrowing of the spinal canal that strains the spinal cord and the nerve roots below the constriction. This condition is most often acquired due to age-related degeneration of the spine or traumatic injury to the spine. Common symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis include radiating pain from the low back to the buttocks and down the legs, along with weakness and loss of sensation or tingling. The pain can worsen with standing, walking, or bending backwards, and lessen with sitting or leaning forward. At Dr. Semih Gungor we have treatments available to relieve pain caused by spinal stenosis. Contact us today to learn more- https://www.hss.edu/physicians_gungor-semih.asp

Facet joints serve as the connecting links between the bones in the posterior or back part of the spine. These joints facilitate movements like twisting, flexing, and extension. Inflammation in these joints can give rise to pain. A facet joint injection entails the administration of medication directly into or adjacent to the facet joint. The medication typically consists of a long-lasting steroid and an anesthetic numbing agent. When delivered directly into the affected area, this combination of medication works to reduce joint inflammation and swelling. Generally, this procedure is recommended for individuals experiencing neck, arm, low back, or leg pain caused by facet joint inflammation, and who have not responded to other conservative treatments. You may be a candidate if you have ✔️Sciatica ✔️Spinal stenosis ✔️Arthritis ✔️Postoperative pain ✔️Spondylolysis. What is degenerative disc disease (DDD)? DDD is the wearing down of spinal discs, which are rubbery cushions located between the bones in your spinal column. These discs act as shock absorbers and facilitate comfortable movement, bending, and twisting. It is a natural part of aging for everyone's spinal discs to degenerate over time. The primary symptoms of degenerative disc disease are neck pain and back pain. The pain may come and go, lasting for weeks or months at a time, and it can cause numbness or tingling in the arms or legs. Additionally, the pain may radiate down the lower back and buttocks and worsen with sitting, bending, or lifting. DDD is caused by the natural aging process, which leads to the wearing down of spinal discs. As people age, the soft core of the discs, which is primarily composed of water, gradually loses water content. Consequently, the discs become thinner and offer less shock absorption than before. Minor injuries can also result in small cracks in the spinal discs, often near nerves. These tears can be painful, even if they are minor. The pain associated with DDD can occur in the neck or lower back and may extend into the arms, hands, buttocks, and legs. Contact Dr. Semih Gungor today to find out more about degenerative disc disease and the treatments available.

Curious about Regenerative Medicine? Regenerative medicine, also known as orthobiologics offers a great opportunity to decrease pain, improve function and heal tissue with much shorter recovery times. One of the newest treatment options for musculoskeletal injuries and problems, these specialized treatments are an excellent alternative to repetitive corticosteroid injection or surgical intervention. Unlike our traditional treatment options that focus on addressing symptomatic improvement, the goal of regenerative medicine procedures is to improve or replace damaged tissue. Regenerative medicine procedures can be safely performed in an office or operative setting with very minimal risk. Learn more about regenerative medicine and let the experts at Dr. Semih Gungor help you today- https://www.hss.edu/physicians_gungor-semih.asp

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) uses heat to destroy targeted tissue. For pain management procedures, radiofrequency waves are transmitted through a carefully positioned needle to generate localized heat around select nerve fibers. This process effectively interrupts the transmission of pain signals to the brain, providing relief. RFA is a minimally invasive technique that offers patients an alternative to more extensive surgical interventions or long-term pharmacotherapy in properly selected cases. Learn more and find out if you're a candidate today https://www.hss.edu/physicians_gungor-semih.asp

Most of the time, there are simple reasons for this pain, such as overuse injuries. If there is still no significant improvement following physical therapy or medications, it’s necessary to involve an interventional pain specialist to evaluate your condition. Interventional pain medicine specialists may be able to figure out and treat the cause of your pain, and direct you for the right treatment options after determining the most likely source of pain. Interventional pain management is different from other pain management because it emphasizes the importance of a precise diagnosis so treatment can begin immediately. Epidural Steroid Injections treat pain that radiates from the spine to different areas of the body. Pinched nerves in the cervical and lumbar spine can cause pain in the neck, shoulders, and arms. Herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or radiculopathy can compress nerves and cause inflammation and pain. A cervical or lumbar epidural steroid injection can be used to reduce this inflammation. This treatment involves an anti-inflammatory medication injected into the space through which the spinal nerves travel to relieve pressure and decrease swelling.
