Michigan recently joined the counselor compact agreement, joining over 30 other states. If passed, it allows the opportunity for counselors to practice across state lines. This could mean that “snow birds”, transferred college students, and job commuters don’t have to switch counselors when they are in a different state and if there is a shortage of counselors in the area, they can look outside the state for care. While the counselor compact is not a perfect plan, it is definitely a start in getting care to others outside of the state.
