Another restock recap! I started making this remedy about 5 years ago (hence the name, censorship was NUTS in 2020 😅)

Most folks are aware of Elderberry as being a great immune supportive herb. I made this blend as a bit more of an aggressive immune support. A heads up- it tastes terrible and you would be hard pressed to get kids to take it 😆 but for us adults it goes down decent enough.

Crafted with Japanese Knotweed root, Schisandra Berries, Andrographis, Boneset and Blue Vervain

Japanese Knotweed- pretty well known at this point for Lyme, however more and more studies are coming out showing just how incredible it is for immunomodulation. Its been found to protect ACE2 (enzymes attached to cells in the lungs, heart, kidneys, liver ect) by preventing viral attachment. It's been shown to be a powerful anti inflammatory and contains vitamin A and C, potassium, phosphorus, zinc and manganese. All are incredibly important right now. It has high resveratrol levels, more then any other plant that we know of. It’s been found to help keep arteries and blood vessels dialted to help prevent blood clots. There’s also been quite a few studies since 2020 showing knotweed and the connection to resolving parasites.

Boneset- considered a miracle herb during Spanish influenza and was traditionally used to aid with respiratory inflammation, joint/muscle aches and fever. It was often used to treat bronchitis and pneumonia

Blue Vervain. I'm starting to get to know this herb well and it's becoming a favorite. It was traditionally used by Native Americans as a antispasmodic relaxing expectorant. Quieting coughs but also expelling mucus from the lungs. Its wonderful respiratory support. Its been found to support bronchial health and a healthy mucosal response in the lungs. Its been used traditionally to promote a healthy inflammatory response to fever as well as a healthy immune response. Its a nervine, which is incredibly important right now as anxiety plays a huge roll in illness. Nervines are restorative herbs. They soothe and nourish the nervous system. Blue Vervain also has been found to support the liver and kidneys

Andrographis-aka-The King of Bitters. This herb has been used for thousands of years and is definitely time honored. Andrographis is a powerful adaptogen and immune supportive herb. It's broad acting and potent which makes this such a versatile remedy, though it may be most well known for being one of the few herbs that are thought to have the ability to cross the blood brain barrier to combat bacterial infections, like Lyme. It's also commonly used to support the liver by opening detox pathways and allowing your body to rid itself from toxic compounds. As most bitters are, it's cooling and drains heat from areas that have too much. Another benefit to bitters are their ability to support our digestive tract. Andrographis has been used to aid us with a number of digestive conditions like diarrhea, excess gas, abdominal pain, and even colic. The andrographolides in this herb are shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties making it incredible support for our immune systems as well. Many folks have found healing with Andrographis through their autoimmune diseases. While it is commonly used to keep viruses from replicating in the body and supporting the immune system in that way, it is also modulating pro- inflammatory cytokines. Andrographis has also been reveared as an excellent herb to support the bodies mobility, as it's anti inflammatory properties have a direct effect on cartilage and relieving joint pain. Being an adaptogen, Andrographis supports our nervous system and aids in helping our bodies adapt to stress.

Schisandra berries are an incredible adaptogen. Adaptogens help the body adapt to stress, in my opinion that is a huge key in staying well. I've always turned to this herb for mental clarity, adrenal fatigue and so much more. Stress and anxiety wreck havoc on our bodies and have the ability to make an illness so much worse. Schisandra has been shown to help the body produce glutathione on a cellular level (glutathione being a key player in cellular defense so the body can prevent and fight disease). Its a powerful antioxidant, and a powerful anti inflammatory. Its been found to aid with normalizing blood pressure, blood sugar and heart palpitations.

October 1st will be here before we know it and I cannot wait 😍😍 but my bow arm is weak and I have a lot to do to strengthen it over the next few weeks. I’ve already been dialed back, TWICE 😆. This last HG pregnancy really took a toll on my body 😅

This weekend I’ll finally be distilling hydrosols for cover scents.

From whitetail strategies:

"Every year one month before deer season starts. I start my scent control routine. All year we been using cologne, deodorant that smells, some wear hair gel and who knows whatever else we put on us. This all takes time to detox from your body. I once had a cousin come hunt with me, he flew in the night before wearing hair gel and cologne. The next morning he showered in scent free soap and off we went. I sat with him all day and still smelt his cologne and gel. So if you think showering a day before the hunt is going to work, its not. I start one month in advance showering in scent free soap and using scent free deodorant. I truly believe this stacks the odds in my favor by detoxing my body of all the stuff I mentioned. I can't tell you the last time a deer snorted at me or I was busted. I been doing this routine for 16 years and as most of you know, I get aggressive at times on my setups and wind directions and it's working like a charm. So if you want to beat more deer, see more deer and stack some more odds in your corner, try this. Start washing in scent free soap early this year and using scent free deodorant and see how it goes for you. Now you still need to handle your clothes the right way. Wash your towels in scent free detergent and only use them. Don't wear your hunting clothes in your truck or to Casey's for lunch. I see that all the time. Ever walk into subway and when you leave you smell like subway..! It's the same effect.. store your clothes in air tight totes. Wear shorts and a t- shirt in the truck that are pre washed in scent free detergent and change your clothes in the field. It's a pretty simple routine once you start. And I'm telling you, you will see more deer and you will not get busted near as much if at all. Some will tell me they killed a big buck back in 93, wearing jeans and smoking in your stand, well congrats you defied the odds, but how many mature bucks have you killed consistently. That's what I'm talking about. Consistently killing mature bucks year after year. The small things make the difference. Some will say this is extreme. Well I moved 1000 miles away from home 16 years ago to chase gaint whitetails the rest of my life.. I'm not taking anything to chance and I'm going to do everything to stack the odds in my favor and this is one of them. This truly has helped me push the edge and hunt the winds most won't and still harvest that buck doing so. P.S. I'm still narrowing down my number 1."

Let's talk about hydrosols for a moment ❤

The thing about herbalism is the range of botanical information and use is so vast, there's constantly room for growth and new passions. From growing to cooking to making medicine. From harvesting nature to teaching. There's something for everyone. I'm constantly learning and constantly in awe. Sometimes something I stumble on will spark an intense fire in my heart and I pursue it with all I have. Then, as you continue on your journey, those passions come together as never ending collective knowledge that just keeps growing. It can never be rushed and has to come from deep passion.

As you know, we don't use any essential oils (I've posted in depth previously on this topic before in case you're curious 🥰). I do however believe in the power of aromatherapy. Most recently I've been completely absorbed with hydrosols. It's truly an ancient alchemical art form and dates back past 5000 BC. They're not a byproduct (at least its not supposed to be), it's not essential oils added to water. Its cellular water. It's safe, its gentle, it's sustainable. When its distilled properly, traditionally in a copper alembic still, it needs no preservative. They're incredibly versatile and are the true art of aromatherapy. Definition (courtesy of Jeanne Rose): HYDROSOL: the aromatic non-alcoholic distillate left from the distillation process of organically grown plants that contains water-soluble cellular parts of the plant material, its cellular water.

So, aside from cover scents, how can you use hydrosols?

I like to say you can use them in any way you would use essential oils, but slightly different. . You can use them in formulas for the water component (think toners, lotions ect), you can use them internally for illness, you can use them topically in a spray on minor wounds and skin irritations/rashes. You can use them as a room spray, and so much more. For example, I loved using the lemon balm hydrosol on my kiddos pillow before bed. Such a wonderful calming nervine 😍 and of course, it sure is helpful for chicken pox 🐔 I make a yarrow hydrosol that I spray on my stomach and face before applying tallow lotion. It helps so much to lock in moisture and bring elasticity to those areas.

Hydrosols are so versatile, gentle and sustainable 🥰🌲

I plan to distill a few different hydrosols

Yesterday I was able to gather all I needed to make a big batch of Wildcrafted C Boost today 🤍

Created with bioavailable Vitamin C in mind. Crafted with Staghorn Sumac Berries, Rowan Berries, Rosehips, Wildcrafted Apples and Highbush Cranberry. Extracted in Artisan well water and Local Raw Honey.

A little about the herbs in this syrup extraction:

Rowan Berries are incredibly unique and special. They contain high amounts of Parasorbic acid, which is toxic in its raw state. However, once cooked this acid becomes ascorbic acid (vitamin C), a very important element for human health reaching far beyond the immune system. Vitamin C plays a huge role in supporting all of our systems, internally and externally. From immune function to collagen production. Staghorn Sumac berries are another incredibly rich and delicious source of vitamin C, with potent immune boosting antioxidant activity. Rosehips- aka fruit of the Rose- are pretty incredible. They not only help with the immune system, but are packed with vitamins and minerals. They also help regulate digestion! Without proper digestive processes taking place it makes it difficult for your body to utilize what you’re taking in. Rosehips have an incredible amount of Vitamin C which helps stimulate white blood cell production. They have a sweet tangy flavor and make a lovely addition to this medicinal syrup. Lastly we have Highbush Cranberry and wild Apples. Highbush Cranberry can be quite bitter and displeasing if it’s not properly prepared, however in this syrup they add a wonderful sweet and tart flavor, pairing well with the sweetness from the apples.

This syrup is crafted with so much love to head into the cooler months, with beautiful wild plants along a peaceful and clean UP stream and shoreline. One of my most favorite spots that was shown to me by someone I care for deeply ❤

Enjoy!

Finally my batch is ready! And my little man definitely needs it because teething is ramping up!

Ive restocked about 40 tinctures, syrups and other remedies this week. I figured I’d start with a recap on baby soothe as it’s a remedy that's close to my heart today. This tincture (and the tea blend) was such a saving grace for the early baby days with all three of my kiddos and now will be for my fourth. Herbs can make such a difference in our children's health, even from when they're itty bitty. Which also in turn makes those early, exhausting days go much more smooth allowing for more bonding and happy hormones 🙂

I used to call this blend Tummy drops, but at one point or the next renamed it to Baby Soothe because I felt it encompassed its purpose much more. From teething to sleep troubles, colic and so much more.

This blend is crafted with Organic or Wildcrafted Fennel, Organic or Wildcrafted Catnip, and Organic or Wildcrafted Chamomile (most times all grown by me) extracted in non- gmo vegetable glycerin (coconut derived). If you're breastfeeding you can take the adult dosage and it will pass through your milk, or you can give the baby/child dosage for babies 6 months+. For infants under 6 months please consult with their pediatrician before giving anything directly. I normally gave it to my babies when they were around 4 weeks old when colic started creeping in.

These herbs were lifesavers when my first was an infant and dealt with very intense colic. Back then I didn't make the Tincture, and we did small doses of tea to soothe his tummy. The tincture is so much easier and potent, and I've been so pleased with it with my last 2 babies and I'm happy to have it as an ally even through toddler and childhood for any tummy upsets or sleep troubles. While I crafted it with infants in mind, it can be taken by adults and older kiddos as well to soothe and upset stomach and calm.

Lets meet the plants! ✨
Chamomile is definitely the most widely known and commonly used. It's known for its relaxant abilities and being antispasmodic. It has been long used to help with abdominal pain in babies and children resulting from things like gas and colic as well as indigestion. There's been recent medical studies showing a 58% success rate at reducing symptoms or completely eliminating colic all together! With just Chamomile!
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2995283/

Then we have Fennel. Fennel has been long used to aid with digestive issues and has been shown to have flatulence reducing properties. Especially in babies with how gentle it is. Another bonus, it's a great ally respiratory health!

Lastly we have Catnip. This is probably the least talked about, but mothers have been using this herb for the babies for generations. Most commonly paired with Fennel, Catnip has been proven to help calm and soothe the stomach. Catnip might be most known as an herb for cats, however this herb has been known (on record) to date back to the 1700s as a medicinal plant for children. This gentle nervine nourishes the nervous system creating a sense of calm while also having the ability to relieve acute pain (teething pain for example). Dr Jethro Kloss, an herbalist and doctor was quoted saying "If every mother had Catnip on her shelf, it would save many a sleepless night and her child much suffering". Catnips active compound nepetalactone is the main contributor to its powerful (yet gentle) calming effects. Making this a wonderful herb for anxiety, even aiding with tension headaches. Catnip is a wonderful aid for stomach upset as well, it's carminative so it helps remove stuck air and excess wind. It was traditionally used by Native Americans for infant colic! It's also a diaphoretic so it's an excellent ally when ill. Diaphoretics encourage the body to sweat, our natural way of temperature regulation. This in turn can bring down fevers in a productive way. Catnip is an incredible plant, and is safe for all ages. However it should be avoided during pregnancy. Catnips energetics are Spicy, Bitter and Cool. Its actions are Anagesic, Antispasmodic, Bitter, Carminative, Diaphoretic, Nervine.

These herbs are tried and true remedies and can be so helpful during a time that can be so hard. I'm not a doctor, so always consult with a medical professional before starting any regimen. With a little research I'm sure you will quickly find how incredible, gentle and helpful these pant allies can be ✨

Restocking today!

All things magnesium ☺️ These are some of our most popular transdermal remedies. Our original magnesium body butter, our tallow magnesium body butter and our magnesium spray.

Recap-

Magnesium is an incredibly important mineral through lymphatic decongestive treatments. It has been shown to play one of the most crucial roles in supporting a healthy lymphatic and immune function. Magnesium is able to get into the lymphatic system beneath the dermis. About 80% of Americans are deficient in magnesium, and this sole deficiency cause so many issues and even other deficiencies! From anxiety, headaches, low energy, insomnia, restless legs, sore muscles, growing pains. The list goes on and on. Magnesium also helps us absorb other vitamins and minerals, so if you're deficient in magnesium, chances are you have other deficiencies too. Studies have shown that the most effective way to up your magnesium is through transdermal application, as it has the best and fastest absorption. Magnesium oil works great but tends to have an unpleasant sting to the skin during application. In this body butter, the magnesium oil is paired with Tallow to help soothe and moisturize the skin as well as increase bioavailability. The soothing nature of tallow allows us to avoid the unpleasant sting that the magnesium oil by itself causes (still, avoid application on open cuts and sensitive areas like the face and such).

Tallow Magnesium Body Butter- Lymph mover 🌿

Spring is a great time for lymphatic support, moving and supporting our elimination systems. Just as our liver & lymph nourishment tincture came about, over the years, I've learned just how interconnected the liver and lymphatic system is. You can not have one functioning without the other. They work together to remove waste, bacteria and viruses, dead tissue, toxins, and so on. Let’s call it the liver and lymph connection. If your liver is suffering, your lymphatic system is also suffering and vice versa. The liver is the largest lymph producing organ. Supporting and nourishing these systems internally is incredibly important. However, you can also support these systems transdermally. My goal was to create a massage butter that can be used both in lymphatic massage as well as conventional massage with the added herbal support to really get the lymph flowing. Tallow plays several roles, though, and aside from allowing for better bioavailability, it also stimulates lymph fluid drainage 🥰

This body butter is crafted with wildcrafted Cedar, Juniper Berries, and Wolfs foot. Extracted in avocado oil. Combined with magnesium and tallow to allow for maximum absorbancy and pine resin for a lovely gentle borealis backwoods scent.

Let's meet the plants!

Wolfs foot is incredibly rich and multi supportive. I won't go too much into it here as I just did a while post on Club moss. However, the reason I included it in this lotion is because it's a wonderful lymphatic mover. Club moss encourages the bodies detoxification.

Cedar purges the lymph nodes and removes harmful toxins which aids in a healthy immune response.

Juniper berries are detoxifiers and cleansers. They aid in lymphatic drainage and circulation. It's especially helpful in clearing congestion in the skin and promoting circulation.

Lastly, a little more on tallow for the skin and PUFA. The healing that tallow offers is backed by time-honored traditions. These are the methods our ancestors used. The original care. Most natural products we use on our skin these days are filled with inflammatory PUFAs, which are unstable and can be toxic to the body. Tallow, on the other hand, is far more balanced and offers stability and slows oxidation. Tallow is also loaded with bioavailable nutrients, both for your skin and internally. Let's go down the rabbit hole of polyunsaturated fatty acids - aka PUFAs.

Skin care products that are made with PUFAs and touted to be anything and everything for our skin. I've certainly used plenty of them for myself, for my family, and in products. They have so many great qualities, and I'm not going to sit here and say they're all bad, but moderation is certainly key as with everything. Essentially, the issue with PUFAs is that they are most times unstable and this leads to oxidation (damage and deterioration) when they're exposed to light, heat or air (so, anytime they're on our skin). Their molecules have double bonds, rendering them weak and easily broken. So why does any of this matter? Well, when these oils on your skin oxidize, it creates a free radical cascade, which damages what may have been previously UNdamaged lipids in your skin. PUFAs have now been identified as the main culprit of cellular damage. In fact, there have actually been studies done of internal use of PUFAs vs not, and how quickly the individual consuming PUFAs skin starts to get damaged and deterioration sets in, because what you eat affects your skin too.

Some ideas for elderberry syrup! We normally just take shots 😆 but we also used to make popsicles and gummies quite a bit! They’re super easy to make and a big hit for the kiddos.

Elderberry & Respiratory syrups, dry kits and glycerites🤍🤍

The nice thing about herbal syrups is you can take them just by the dose, but you can do tons more with them too. I've made respiratory support gummies with this syrup that my kids loved, or even just add a bit of the syrup to some warm water for instant tea. We've also mixed the syrup with water and poured into popsicle molds for herbal popsicles (you guys might remember when we did that at the shop in the summer). And I've used them for the syrup on shave ice as a healthy herbal alternative to the sugar syrups.

Respiratory Support Syrup 🌿

With herbal remedies it's about supporting the entire body and using herbs to support the healing process, rather than suppressing. When you suppress, you may feel better for a moment, but ultimately it prolongs the illness and doesn't give your body a chance to heal properly. For example, when you cough-most times it's your body trying to get mucus riddled with germs out of your lungs. However, that can also cause pain and swelling throughout our respiratory tract, headaches, loss of sleep, ect. It is possible to support your body in healing, while also staying comfortable. In this blend, we use herbs that have been proven to strengthen and heal the lungs (my favorite herb for the lungs, Elecampane), as well as herbs that help to coat and soothe inflamed mucus membranes (for example, Marshmallow root because of its wonderful mucilage), herbs that keep congestion to a minimum (thank you Mullein 🙏), herbs like Elderflower that support the immune system in a gentle way and even has diaphoretic properties to aid with those fevers. All while being expectorants to move mucus that may be stuck in the lungs up and out. This syrup was crafted to aid with healing for your most common respiratory ailments. We have this blend as a syrup, syrup dry kit, and tincture (glycerite)

Elderberry Aronia Syrup 🌿

Our Elderberry Aronia syrup is crafted in a nickel free stainless steel pot with fluoride free water. The herbs soak for 20+ minutes and then are cooked for 80 minutes. After the decoction has cooled the local raw honey is added, keeping the medicinal properties intact. We use Organic Elderberries, Organic Astragalus Root, Organic Aronia Berries, Organic Schisandra, Organic Olive Leaf, Organic Ceylon Cinnamon, Organic Ginger Root, and Organic Cloves.

These herbs come together for a powerhouse immune supportive herbal syrup that aids with digestion as well. Let's meet the plants! And remember, this is just information based on traditional use as well as modern day studies, always consult a MP before starting an herbal regimen. Elderberries have been used for centuries to help with the immune system. Modern day studies have shown just how effective they are and really brought them to light. Elderberries have an antioxidant called anthocyanin-which is one of the main reasons it’s so effective. Anthocyanin helps eliminate free radicals. Elderberries also have anti viral properties which have proven to prevent and/or reduce the severity and duration of cold and flu symptoms. Elder has also been shown to block viral attachment to the ACE-2 linkages. ACE-2 is the entry point for the virus into cellular tissues and once the virus attaches-function declines or is destroyed.

Aronia berries have also been used for ages, originally by indigenous peoples for illness. They have proven themselves in modern day studies to have high polyphenols and antioxidant activity. Similar to Elderberries, they also contain anti viral properties. Their delicate flavor is also delightful. I fell in love with Aronia berries when I learned of their benefits to our intestinal health. We know that when our digestive tract is not performing, we also arent absorbing.

Olive leaf is commonly used for respiratory infections and is antimicrobial. It’s been used to strengthen the immune system as a preventative measure as well as aiding the body to help actively fight bacterial, fungal and viral infections. It works on the cellular level mainly due to its oleuropein. Another great benefit of olive leaf is even though it is antibacterial, it only deactivates bad bacteria while protecting the good bacteria. Olive leaf protects the cilia-which are part of the cells in the lungs. The Berberine in the Olive Leaf is a great anti inflammatory, which is needed especially in the lungs.

Astragalus Root is another gentle herb that has also been used for centuries to help strengthen the immune system. As well as being a cytokine modulator. It has been shown to stimulate specific parts of our immune system (lymphocytes and monocytes) which helps the body fight viruses. It is a great source of antioxidants which again help fight off free radicals. Along with it’s antiviral properties it also carries antibacterial properties. It’s also an adaptogen which helps wthe body adapt to excess stress (and we know how stress can affect us) and has even been shown in modern day studies to help protect the liver, kidneys and heart.

Then we have Schisandra. Its modulating in nature, so it supports you when needed while not being stimulating. Schisandra potentiates glutathione and supports the immune system but it's also an adaptogen. This means it balances the body's functions and maintains homeostasis. Schisandra is used to support cognitive function and mental clarity and focus. It's helpful support to energy levels, and even supports the circulatory system. It supports a healthy inflammatory response, improves digestion. I could go on and on! The best part, is the synergy this herb has is incredible. Schisandra works so well with the other herbs in our formula.

The other herbs in the syrup are a bit more common, so I won’t go as in depth with them. They are Ceylon Cinnamon, Ginger Root, Cloves and Lemon Peel. It’s important to use Ceylon Cinnamon because other forms of cinnamon (like Cassia) can be harmful in medicinal doses. Ceylon Cinnamon has polyphenols which help fight oxidative stress. It has been shown to be high in procyanidins and lectins. Ginger root has a pretty long list of benefits, including being helpful for respiratory issues curing colds and coughs. Cloves also have antiviral, antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Last but not least there’s Lemon Peel, which not only give this syrup a wonderful flavor but is also packed with vitamin C! This strong decoction is then combined with local raw honey which in itself has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. It has an impressive amount of vitamins and minerals and is a natural preservative.

We hope you love these herbal syrups as much as we do!

Next batch of Fire Cider is ready! 🔥

It's one of those old folk remedies that does SO much good and I feel like it gets overlooked often. Fire cider has been around for a long long time, many variations exist, but they all have the same core: Horseradish root, Onion. Garlic, and Tumeric, and some kind of spice in ACV. I put a bit of a different spin on mine. I add in cracked black pepper to help with turmeric absorption, Lemon peel, Chaga-the king of mushrooms, and Holy Basil-an incredible adaptogen. I also use Cayenne and Habanero peppers as well as Ginger root. We do a special chaga extraction before the fire cider even begins.

This folk remedy has been traditionally used as a health tonic to boost the immune system, increase energy, aid with digestion, aid with circulation, as well as contributing to gut health and so much more.

I wanted to share some feedback I've gotten (with permission) ❤

"I am so thankful for creation. I am thankful for this beautiful earth and all it provides us! Especially thankful for it and the sweet woman behind it for all she does with what the earth provides! I have been battling an on and off virus for almost a month (thanks Lyme) with little improvement until I tried her Fire Tonic! 3 doses in a little over 24 hours and I finally feel LIFE coming back to my body! 🙌🏼🌙✨"

And from another lovely mama-
"My son ate for the first time since being sick 30 minutes after giving him your stuff! He went back to school today and still felt great when he went home!"

"My parents are visiting from Ohio and my dad tried some for his throat and he already felt a difference too!" "My dad has been trying to get over swollen lymph nodes in his throat for three weeks, also went through a round of antibiotics 2 weeks ago and they did nothing. He took the Fire Cider 2x a day for 2 days and it's totally gone!"

The incredible gifts that plants provide for our bodies still blows my mind every day. When the match is right, they work with us in such harmony.
