Brahmacarya is the practice of preserving one’s vital energy. It’s imperative to act in the face of injustice, it’s also mandatory that we take care of our own health and well being while recognizing our privilege of being able to do so.

Yoga as a practice for all humanity doesn’t let us off the hook of advocating for others, but it does ask us to consider how we are using our energy. Fighting for the sake of being right often pushes others away from our perspectives and depletes us in the process. Instead, volunteering, researching places to donate to, and having healthy conversations allow us to make change in the world with less efforting.

How do you choose to spend your energy?

✨ Happy Mahāśivarātri! ✨

On this sacred day, we honor Lord Śiva as a symbol of transformation, reminding us that illumination always triumphs over ignorance.

May this Mahāśivarātri inspire you to embrace impermanence, release attachments, and step into the flow of life with grace and wisdom. 💙

Stories are important. They bring to life people’s perspectives and explain reasons why we exist the way we exist. They have power when told in safe spaces, have the potential to heal ourselves and others, and they keep our loved ones alive.

When stories are taken out of context, or deliberately altered to fit an agenda, we use other people to justify our practice of division. We use others as scapegoats to our own agenda and when it’s out of context, we can usually safely assume that agenda is not aligned with the betterment of all humanity. If you have to lie, and use others to lie, we know there is no good gained.

There is no right story for a wrong agenda.

In a world full of disinformation, it’s imperative that we consciously look for the truth instead of what cushions our belief systems. When we make what we believe mean something about us, we will choose information that furthers those ideologies rather than seeking out what really is, especially if what is goes against what we think and know.
This is heavily apparent in our political environment in the west. When we choose not to see the truth of the situation because it doesn’t align with our ideas of life, politics, or religion we automatically establish systems of oppression, inequality, separation, and hate.

When you choose where you get your information, what is behind that choice?

Ahiṃsā is the first of the yamas or restraints. It means non-harming or non-violence. We can begin practicing ahiṃsā by watching our thoughts, words, and actions and consider how who we are in the world affects others.

This practice brings us out of selfishness and invites us into community with humanity. No longer can we abide in apathy, we are asked to consider all beings as ourselves and move from a place of intention and love, and not from a place of self indulgence, reaction, or bitterness.

When we treat everyone (including ourselves) and everything as the Divineness that they are, no war is possible from us. But we also can’t look away as others choose the path of violence. We are asked to act for the good of all until violence is no longer an option. That means fighting oppression of others in all contexts.

When humanity becomes a political pawn in the goal for power, you know you’ve lost the plot.

Yoga is the practice of de-centering one’s perspective so that a broader truth of reality has the ability to be seen. The world is full of stories, and lived experiences that are complex, inspiring, and traumatic. When we forget that there are people with stories on the other end of our agendas it becomes easy to justify atrocity.

We at Yoga Home are for all of humanity, and are for the abolishment of ALL policies, departments, and administrations that harm people for power. We stand with humanity, immigrants, and those less fortunate. Our hearts are with MN as they continue to be the example of Skill in Action.

Yama is the first limb of Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras. According to Patañjali, there are five ways of being we should practice when co-participating with nature and other’s. When one commits to practicing the yamas, one begins to put humanity over self interest and acts accordingly. These practices establish selflessness and a desire for all living beings to abide in abundance and happiness.

They are the foundation of social justice.
