Last week we piloted a new collaboration between Nursing and Theatre students - using theatre students as Simulated Participants (SPs) to support mental health simulations.
For nursing students, working with SPs crates a safe, realistic space to practice the art of caring - especially therapeutic communication, empathy, and presence when supporting patients facing mental health challenges.
For theatre students, this experience offers a unique opportunity to apply improvisation and character development skills in a nontraditional setting - responding in real time to clinical communication while portraying complex patient stories.
This pilot demonstrated the power of interdisciplinary learning and the value of human connection in healthcare education. We're excited about the possibilities ahead!
