Enjoyed a good conversation with folks gathered at Mankato Professional Pharmacy during a recent visit to Jewell County. It was the 103rd county I've visited since launching my campaign for governor.
Have you checked out the stores in downtown Mankato? What about a custom built piece from Ost Furniture & Cabinetry LLC? Hair products or gift certificates from the salons? Something beautiful from Hidden Treasures Quilt Shop Treasures. A custom made vinyl graphic on a piece from Moonlight Workshop LLC. Possibilities has gifts for men and women and you can always count on Mankato Professional Pharmacy for great options. There is a new massage place in Mankato this year too, check them out for gift certificate! Lastly, don't discount https://www.facebook.com/BobsofMankato/ for gift certificates for food or Kiers Thriftway for all kinds of creative ideas for anyone in your book! Off main street, you can give the gifts of pizza, buffets, burgers,. cinnamon rolls, etc. from Buffalo Roam Steak House, Mankato Express, and Sweden Creme. The Jewell City Mercantile, Grate Expectations Cafe, The Shed, and The Barn can set you up out in the County.
Congratulations to my awesome brother for 40 years of great service!
Store looks good. Great job

WHAT IS A PBM?
Pharmacy Benefit Managers, or PBMs, are large corporate middlemen in the pharmacy supply chain that you may not recognize. However, these obscure corporations play an outsized role on how much you pay for your medications and your health care outcomes.

PBMs determine which pharmacies you can visit by determining your coverage network. In fact, your preferred pharmacy may be excluded from the network simply because the PBM chooses not to include them, even if your pharmacy would be a willing participant. Depending on where you live, if your local pharmacy is excluded, you could be forced to either travel a great distance to utilize the PBM’s “network” pharmacy or pay much higher costs to use your local pharmacy. Neither option is fair!

While the PBM limits your pharmacy options, it also sets the prices it pays to your pharmacy for filling your prescription—often paying the pharmacy less than the pharmacy’s cost for acquiring the medication. This can have devastating consequences for you if your pharmacy is forced to shut its doors because they can’t continue to absorb the financial losses.

You may even lose access to brick-and-mortar pharmacies altogether as PBMs entice employers and other sponsors to require the use of a mail order pharmacy – often the one owned and operated by the PBM – for certain medications. This deprives you of access to face-to-face consultations with your pharmacist, and could even lead to you receiving the wrong medication or medications that have been damaged by sitting out in extreme weather conditions. This can lead to harmful outcomes for you, and result in you paying more to have the PBM correct its mistake.

Not only do PBMs control where you obtain your medication, they also determine what medications you can take by determining what medications they will cover. This decision is often based on the size of the rebate that the PBM extracts from drug manufacturers. Keep in mind, the covered medication may not be the medication your doctor thinks will be most effective, and you and your doctor may have to jump through several hoops to get the medication that is most effective for you.

And those rebates? While you may think your PBM uses the rebates to lower prices for you and your plan, unfortunately, that is not often the case. While rebates may enrich the PBM and their corporate shareholders, your cost is often determined by the list price of the medication, not the post-rebate, discounted price. This inflates your out-of-pocket costs. As PBM rebates continue to grow, so do your out-of-pocket costs.

ACTION NEEDED!
Have you every wondered what the Prescription Benefit Managers are doing to help patients? PBM are the middleman between patients, pharmacists and insurance companies that electronically process RX claims and determine what drugs you are allowed to get paid for
While community pharmacists continue to serve patients on the frontlines coping with or scared by the COVID-19 pandemic, PBMs continue to impose barriers to care, including assessing onerous pharmacy DIR fees that raise costs for patients and threaten patients’ access to their community pharmacies.
On behalf of all of community pharmacy, the National Community Pharmacy Assoc. is launching “FIGHT4RX”, a digital and social media platform to help communicate to patients or for patients to engage Congress, the Administration and state policymakers on actions that affect your ability to make your own decisions about your healthcare.
Fight4RX facilitates patient engagement directly on either a mobile device or a computer, allowing them to register as an advocate simply by texting, FIGHT4RX TO 52886.
PLEASE consider taking a few moments to register as an advocate and not only receive alerts that may affect you, but also be able to share with neighbors, friends, and family via facebook and Twitter.
Now, more than ever, patients and community pharmacy must take the fight to the Policy makers in order to ensure that the limitation on your Healthcare access does not continue!
