Tough electrician with a bad flare up of neck pain. Could hardly move his neck during his appointment. For those that have had that happen, you know how not fun it is. We opted to do more manual therapy instead of adjusting because of the pain and restriction. 2 days later he was able to get through most of his work day, and by the end of the week he was close to 80% improved.

Jumping into the weekend…

After a more normal week. Back to class. A couple new patients. And some new baby ultrasound pics to cap the week. No complaints here.

Here’s the training:
Mon - 4 miles easy
Tues - 2 miles chill
Wed - 5 miles (2.5 in vest)
Thu - 30min zone ride
Fri - ARM day
Sat - ??? LONG lake run hopefully with a buddy

No major booboos from the miles this week. Right hip has been a little more clicky and clunky, so I’m planning some extra stretchy time to smoothen that out.

Oh also, I LOVE jumping rope for a run warm up. Helps get that “bouncy” feel so that I don’t sound like an elephant on the treadmill. Underrated and super easy thing I recommend to a lot of my runners. Shoutout to the wife for the new jump rope last week.

So many great health events going on right now that we’ve had many of our community be a part of.
- Crossfit Open - last Friday I got to join for their Friday Night Lights event. Such a great vibe in that room!
- Autumn from Fitness Untamed is also cruising through the OPEN sitting in a super high rank. Per usual!
- JP Fitness MNn completed their 60 day challenge to start the year. So many new faces in the gym and so much PROGRESS by those that committed to the program.
- Congratulations to participants in the All-Star Nutrition Mankatoon_mankato New Year New You challenge!

Recovery Sunday

15min walk 🚶🏽‍➡️
2 Tricep lifts🤘🏼
2 Bicep lifts💪🏽
15min sauna 🔥

Goals today:
Walk the stiffness/soreness out of the legs ✅
Try and keep up with the wife’s arm gains ❌
Relax muscles with a sauna/stretch✅

Sometimes 2/3 is enough for a good day.

The big surprise was parts of my legs actually felt BETTER after the 8 miles on Saturday. The body is weird. Sometimes it gives us all sorts of feels. I guess it needed the longer run to knock off some of the rust.

Feeling good has me feeling excited for more miles this week(at least that’s what I’m telling myself).

Wishing our very own Mr the happiest of birthdays this weekend.

We’ve been so frickin lucky to have had Will be one of our MSU student workers over the last 2 years. And I’m hoping to have him work as many semesters as he’s around before jumping into his Athletic Training career.

He does a little bit of everything for us at the clinic and is ALWAYS willing to take over a task with a smile.

During our down time he’s always on top of the latest NFL news. Comparing fantasy teams. And even beating me by 1 or 2 games in our own weekly pick ‘em competition.

His Pats made quite the run this year. My highlight was a patient coming in to hug him after they lost in the Super Bowl 😂 what can I say, we have such caring people in our community.

BIG thanks for all you do Will. It’s been a blast having you on our team and seeing your growth into your future career. Keep being the kind, accountable, hardworking dude you are.

If you’re by the clinic this week make sure you wish him a happy birthday!

Weekend long run ✅

First semi long run in a while. Definitely where I’m behind, but still making it work.

Goal: 8 miles -> 8.01 ✅
Goal: under 90 min -> 84:45 ✅

Other than the miles, I really wanted to stay out of the “OOFTA” zone… which is Minnesotan for miserable.

Things that helped:
1. Have a cute wife that joins you .weber 😘
2. Switched shoes at mile 5
3. Peed at mile 5
4. Snack at mile 6
5. Started watching Peaky Blinders at mile 2(I heard it’s a good show 🤷🏽‍♂️ anyone seen it)
6. I remembered the Vaseline 👍🏼

Who knew so many things could be helpful.

What your favorite “helper” for long runs?

High 👋🏼FIVE👋🏼 Friday!!!

Or, 5 mile Friday.

Whichever you prefer.

Today was a medium run day. Comfy pace. No strict plan other than getting to 5 miles.

2 + 3 + 3 + 5 = 13 miles in the week so far.

One more 7 miler to hit 20 would be awesome this weekend.

Took a break at 3 to take my sweatshirt off before I melted🥵

Pinky toes got a little sore around 4, so I paused to stretch my ankles.

Forgot the Vaseline. IYKYK 🔥

Controlled breathing.

Nothing too exciting except being next to my buddy while he crushes the last days of his 60 day challenge .

Anyone got fun run plans for this snowy weekend?

Lots of miles go into training.

At least if you’re doing a decent plan.

The upside of good training volume:
- better conditioned
- better at tolerating miles
- better at running when fatigued

The downside:
- not all miles are FUN

You learn that fact pretty quick. I think that’s a big reason why some people “try” running and then stop pretty quickly. Kind of like most things though. Even a “dream job” has bad days.

Wiring through that is what builds the “resilience” SKILL. And yes, it’s a skill. Cause you can get better at it if you try. Like eating your veggies. You’ll get better at it if you try… or something like that.

Lots of runners come up with ways to still run the not fun miles.

Today it was running next to my treadmill buddy.

What gets you through tough miles?

A few miles… at a time…

There’s no magic to getting miles done. The closing thing to magic is actually having a plan for how you’re going to do it… I’m not there yet 😂 but in the next few days I’ll have it put together. Running friends, Google, and ChatGPT are awesome for that.

But plans don’t run you. You run the plan.

And you do it… a few miles… at a time…

Todays run:
3 miles / 10:00 pace

Body check in:
Feet a little sore
Mid back tight (thanks drywall)
Hips a little tight (increased weekly miles)
