During your second or third trimester, you may notice brown spots or patches on your skin, called melasma. This is a common reaction your skin has to the extra estrogen in your body during pregnancy, and it will most likely fade after birth. The best treatment while pregnant is to avoid direct sun exposure and to use pregnancy-safe sunscreen, while eating healthy foods and taking prenatal vitamins.
Learn more about pregnancy symptoms and how to deal with them in our IMPACT parenting education program.
