✨ASANA OF THE WEEK✨
PADMASANA/LOTUS LOSE
🪷🪷🪷
This week we are tributing our pose of the week to Dan Meyers, an incredible member of our Vyana community taken too soon. Anybody who frequented our studio was bound to have crossed paths with this incredible man, Dan. He frequented classes here many days a week and was a dedicated yoga practitioner.
He was a humble man of profound words. He is and will continue to be deeply missed. 🤍
Padma = lotus
asana = pose, posture, seat
- Padmasana is a seated posture
- Padmasana is a foundational meditation posture that promotes stillness, grounding, & a deep mind-body connection.
Sit on the floor with legs extended.
2️⃣ Bend your right knee and place your foot on your left thigh (sole facing up).
3️⃣ Bend your left knee and place your foot on your right thigh.
4️⃣ Rest hands on knees in Jnana Mudra - tip of your index finger to the tip of your thumb, creating a gentle circle, keeping other fingers extended and relaxed. Palms face up for a receptivity.
5️⃣ Lengthen your spine, stack shoulder over ribs, ribs over hips, keeping the integrity of your spine & release your shoulders, breathe deeply.
Modifications:
✨ Half Lotus (Ardha Padmasana): Place one foot on the opposite thigh and the other on the floor.
✨ Easy Pose (Sukhasana): Cross your legs comfortably without placing feet on thighs.
✨ Use Props: Sit on a cushion or block to elevate the hips and reduce knee strain
Lotus pose and it’s modifications are simple yet beneficial
-Enhance hip flexibility
-Strengthens the spine & improves posture
-Calms the mind & reduces stress
-Balances energy flow in the body
Jnana mudra is often used in meditation and pranayama to -enhance focus
-balance energy
-cultivate a state of awareness
while regulating prana, calming nervous system & helping to align the mind, body, and breath.
When the index finger & thumb touch, it symbolizes unity & connection between the individual self (index finger) & the universal consciousness (thumb). 🌀
Thank you Dan we miss you.
