Thank you for giving me grace with my delay in updating about yesterday’s chili dinner fundraiser.

The fundraiser was amazingly well thought out and Hunter’s aunts and grandmother put together a truly special event to raise money for his medical bills, travel expenses and his parent’s loss of wages. You could clearly see and feel the love, thought and care that was put into this fundraiser.

We had a decent turn out with some people braving the frigid temps for Hunter and his family. We were pleasantly surprised with the tuen out with it being super bowl Sunday. As always i wish there were more adequate words than just thank you.

It was so wonderful that Hunter could show up and enjoy it all and see how loved he is. He did some raffles and won a couple of snack food baskets. He ran around and did ballon tag after. He got to be a kid. It was amazing.

Hunter is an 8 year old hockey player from upstate NY who was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in his upper right arm. The Ewing Sarcoma is localized. He will have limb salvage surgery at Dana Farber in Boston in April. His chemotherapy regimen is rigorous and long.
Hunter loves getting mail. Cards can be sent to Hunter Stoffel PO Box 146 Mannsville NY 13661.

This was what it was all about. Not about the win or loss, but for a cause. A BIG thank you to Salmon River Ice Hockey Association and thefarmrink in making today so special in raising awareness for pediatric cancer.

This will absolutely continue for years to come.

Last night 02/05/2026, our hockey community surrounded our warrior with love and support as OBay High School Hockey team dedicated their last game of the year to their hockey brother, Hunter.
OBay played Rome. All of Rome hockey has shown their love and support to us right from the start as well.
As always the words “thank you” fall short.
Hunter loved being on the ice at his home rink and getting fist bumps from both teams. It was so nice to see him back at the rink enjoying himself.
Thank you!

Hunter is an 8 year old Salmon River 8U white/red player who was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma localized to his right humerus bone. He faces long and rigorous treatment (through August) for this aggressive bone cancer and limb salvage surgery (April).

Today is World Cancer Day, and I want to share something important—especially with parents.

Cancer doesn’t always look obvious. In children, the warning signs can be subtle, inconsistent, or easy to explain away. Pain that lingers. Fatigue that feels different. Symptoms that don’t quite add up. And sometimes, a gut feeling you can’t shake.

If there’s one thing this journey has taught us, it’s this: advocate for your child—loudly and relentlessly. You know your child better than anyone. If something feels off, keep asking questions. Push for answers. Ask for tests. Get a second opinion. Don’t let concerns be dismissed.

Early detection matters. Awareness matters. And a parent’s voice can make all the difference.

On World Cancer Day, I hope this reminds families everywhere to trust their instincts and speak up—for their children, for their futures, and for every child still fighting.
