Did you know that August is Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) Awareness Month?
SBS happens when a person doesn’t have enough small intestine, or it doesn’t work well. This is a rare malabsorption disorder that prevents the body from absorbing enough nutrients like water, protein, calories, fat, and vitamins among others.
SBS can result from surgery to remove a major portion of the small and large intestines, being born with a part of the small intestine missing or having small intestines that don’t work well for other reasons.
Nutritional support is key to ensure the body has the nutrients it needs. Get the facts and support about treating SBS in our Short Bowel Syndrome Resource Center.
This resource is the place to start to learn more about the condition, plus find resources that can support transitions of care for teen to adult care.
