The holidays can bring many mixed emotions, and that’s okay. It’s okay to not always be excited for the holidays. As busy as this season is, try to make space to slow down and process any mixed emotions so that they don’t pile up in a way that feels unmanageable. Don’t be afraid to ask for extra support and be kind to your mind this holiday season! ✨💚
Starting over can be hard to do, but often success comes after failure and learning.
We know that holidays can be filled with joy and for others holidays can be filled with many mixed emotions because of grief, family dynamics, and/or mental health struggles. Allow yourself to truly acknowledge your feelings and give yourself permission to do something that brings rest and refreshment. We hope you all find moments of joy today & have a happy Thanksgiving! 🧡

Depression is more than someone seeming sad. It often takes the form of exhaustion, fatigue, lethargy, and lack of motivation or desire to do anything. Be gentle and kind to those you know who may be struggling, and if you’re one of those struggling with depression remember to be extra kind to yourself✨
This week we are spotlighting Rachel Slack MA, LPC, NCC – Rachel has been with Mansfield Counseling since 2018 and she a passion for creating a safe space for people to explore their mental health. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to say to someone in order to show empathy, especially if it’s not something we’ve been through or feel we can relate to. Regardless of if you’ve been through the exact same situation, more than likely you can at least relate to the emotion the other may be feeling. Even though solutions can be helpful, sometimes we all just need to feel heard and listened to without being offered a solution.
If you’re not sure what the other person needs it’s okay to simply just ask, “Would it feel more helpful for me to listen and offer empathy right now, or do you need help coming up with solutions?” We can’t expect anyone else, or even ourselves, to be mind readers but we can do our best to ask what each other needs and offer empathy.
Double Spotlight Series: We also want to congratulate Linette for receiving her ’S’ today – otherwise known at her LPC-S licensure in order to be an official supervisor. This will allow Linette to supervise LPC-Associates who are completing their 3,000 post-graduate supervised hours. This is a huge accomplishment because it means Linette has been practicing as a LPC for 5 years now and is a wonderful clinician! 🎉
Linette has been working with Mansfield Counseling since 2016. She has extensive experience in working with adults who have endured trauma, whether it is a single incident or complex trauma. She also has experience working with adults who have struggled with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other severe mental illnesses. Linette has been able to help individuals and their families regain hope for a brighter and healthier future.
Linette can be described as helpful, wise, funny, and caring by those who know her. Linette loves being a new mom to her sweet little girl, is a huge Texas A&M fan (go Aggies!), and enjoys binge watching shows with her husband.
Remember that no one person can be another person’s everything, meaning that one person cannot fix, help, or solve all the struggles, issues, and feelings of another. Healthy boundaries are good boundaries. It’s okay to not respond right away every time, not always pick up the phone, and to allow yourself the space to breathe. It is a strength to want to help and care for others, don’t get rid of that exceptional quality, but keep it in balance with taking care of yourself.
We decided to start a “spotlight series” to highlight all our amazing counselors and brag on them a bit! 👏🏼 First up is our fearless and highly talented leader, private practice owner, and counselor Jeffrey Gallup (MA, LPC-S, NCC, CFMHE).
Jeff opened Mansfield Counseling in 2008 and has successfully grown the practice to 8 counselors, with the practice thriving through the many seasons of life that have come since 2008. Jeff is not only an incredible counselor, he is also one of the leading clinicians who does testing and assessments in the DFW area, particularly as a Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator. Jeff approaches clients with a kind, compassionate, and a solution-oriented focus. He enjoys helping his clients identify where they can make real changes in their lives and give themselves the space to feel their emotions as they need to.
Some fun facts about Jeff include that he is an avid baker and trying his hand at more complicated recipes each week. Jeff is always reading at least 2-3 books and his favorite author is Stephen King. Jeff also enjoys hanging out with his wife and two teenagers, and enjoying his tasty baking with them! 💯

✨Happy Monday✨ It can be hard to turn down plans whether it’s because you genuinely want to spend time with friends and family, or maybe because you struggle with the worry of disappointing others and people-pleasing. However, it’s important to know your capacity and know when you need time for YOU to decompress and refresh. Here are some ways you can say ‘no’ in a kind, respectful, and honest manner that allows you to have boundaries and space to take time for yourself.
Life gets busy and exhausting, so it’s not surprising how easy it is to get to a point of feeling burnt out. While it may feel impossible to slow down, finding small ways to reset during the day and week can go a long way in helping our minds and bodies reset from being in a constantly busy, or “fight or flight” mode, from stress.
While our work, kid’s schedules, family time, and the many life responsibilities and obligations throughout the week can keep us all on the constant go, just remember you deserve a break to slow down and reset. Whether that be small increments during the day, or bigger chunks of time during the week for self-care, remind yourself that it is okay to slow down. You owe it to yourself!

A new year brings new hope, but sometimes it doesn’t last long into the new year. If you are already having a difficult year, hang in there. A few things that may be helpful to remember or try are:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➡️ Try to still hold hope. Nothing makes us feel worse like when we feel there is nothing to look forward to. Try writing down 3-5 things that have been good so far this year and 3-5 things you may look forward to, even if they are small.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➡️ Be kind and compassionate to yourself. Remember you are doing the best you can and the best you know how to, with the circumstances you are in. Take it one hour at a time and be gentle with yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➡️ Find one thing you want to focus on doing each week that brings some joy to your life. Maybe it’s grabbing a coffee and taking a walk, getting outside in the sunshine to ride your bike or play with your pet, pick up some flowers to brighten up your home, or FaceTime a close friend.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➡️ Plan consistent time with people you feel supported by. Don’t shy away from sharing your struggles, venting and talking can do wonders! We all need support and help at times, don’t be afraid to ask because you matter!
All of us at Mansfield Counseling want to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! In such unpredictable times we all hope you find many moments of joy today and in the days to come!💚❤️
