“I wanna play your piano” a soft voice said as a tiny little hand grabbed mine. Mom said “OK, we’ll do a duet.”

Dr. Stephen Douglas Blood (Age 79)
Passed away at his home on Saturday, September 25, 2021 following a lengthy battle with inclusion body myositis. He was surrounded by his two surviving children and his wife of 45 years.A lifelong resident of Alexandria, VA, Steve was born on July 9,1942, the eldest of three children of Dr. Harold and Laura (Locke) Blood. He attended the University of Richmond and Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO, and held a residency in Portland, ME, before returning to Alexandria to join his father's medical practice in 1973. Stephen's greatest passions were treating patients, training new doctors, participating in Kiwanis and professional organizations, and worshipping at Trinity United Methodist Church. When not working he enjoyed the water most, sailing the Chesapeake Bay or swimming in the Atlantic with his family. Proximity to water signaled some of the few times he could be seen without his ever-present bow-tie.Dr. Blood is survived by his wife Connie; daughter Laura (Scott) Kaplan, son Christian (David Elkins) Blood; brother Fred (Michele) Blood, sister Susan Wilson; two loving grandsons, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Steve was preceded in death by his son, Stephen, Jr. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Alexandria, VA once it is safe to travel and gather. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Stephen Blood Fund at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, 2265 Kraft Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060 or Trinity United Methodist Church.

Yes, Dr. Mike had covid. It attacked his kidneys and his heart - he spent 6 days in Riverside. He had gone to homes and seen patients in their homes with Covid and he has seen patients all along and there is no way to know where he "got it". He is back in the office with a new perspective, recovered seeing patients as before and thanks you for your prayers.

We hope to be able to offer on-site IgG and IgM antibody testing soon, with no out-of-pocket cost.

We are still and have been doing the best we can to help anyone, including the islands, with Covid testing. Internal emails to physicians from hospital systems are telling us that resources and testing supplies are in short supply with prediction to get much worse for months before they get better. Dr Stretanski (Dr MIke) continues to be on-call 24/7 without charge for issues surrounding Covid 19, but we are not able to directly treat symptomatic patients.

Wash your hands. Wear your mask. Check on your neighbors by phone. Make sure anyone you know who is elderly has groceries/meds/water delivered.
This crisis is time-limited and island residents are tough and independent.

Hang in there PIB you are in our prayers. It is not at oversimplification to say that you know what you need to know form high school health class. Covid-19 is a coronavirus. Everything you learned in gradeschool about the common cold such as washing your hands and not rubbing your eyes or picking your nose applies and it pretty-much unchanged from what you already know about the common cold. Yes, there are a few more details, but wear your masks, wipe down surfaces, wash your hands and don't touch your eyes, mouth, or nose.

Our Story

Put-in-Bay Concierge Medical is in it’s third year providing Concierge Physician Services on Put-in-Bay Island Summer of 2018. We provide basic urgent, not EMERGENT care for many of the minor things that would otherwise require an expensive airlift or time consuming off-island ER visit. IV Fluids, including "morning after IV's" with B vitamins and anti-nausea medications will also be available. Basic would closure/"stitches", cough/cold/flu and non-operative orthopedic/arthritic care such as knee and shoulder injections. Basic internal medicine and family medicine, vaccines, sports/work physicals are available by prearrangement. The physician is on PIB island most weekends, but our telemedicine program enables us to evaluate and care for island residents 24/7 with follow-up when the doctor gets to the island. Alternating pharmacies deliver daily via the Miller Ferry. The doctor is a pilot with an aircraft and can stop on any of the other islands - weather permitting. As an established anti-aging and regenerative medicine program , we are also able to provide facial rejuvenation treatments such as Botox, Restylane, Juvederm. We will have absolutely no controlled substances - “no narcotics”, but we can provide Suboxone treatment.
