JUST A REMINDER

Flag placement that was scheduled for today was cancelled and moved to yesterday. Thank you to all the volunteers who showed up with short notice to put out flags. If you're visiting and notice your veteran did not receive a flag, there are extras at the side entrance to the cemetery office. There is also an envelope of veteran stickers pinned to the bulletin board at the side entrance. If your veteran does not have a sticker or has a faded one, feel free to take a new one.

Anyone who will be visiting the cemetery on Memorial Day who does not wish to be a part of the parade and ceremony should visit after 2pm.

Next week the water lines and hydrants will be checked and tested. We will post here when the water is turned on. ๐Ÿคž If you're used to stopping at the office and using the faucet in front it is unfortunately gone. Last fall someone ran it over.

We hope you all have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend. See you at Veteran's Honor Ground on Monday.

Volunteers are needed to place US flags on veteransโ€™ graves in the Mansfield Cemetery. Due to the rain expected Saturday, flag placement has been moved to today, Friday the 22nd. The Veterans Administration will be at the cemetery sometime between 9am and 9:30 with flags. Even though the cemetery will be busy today with the ground crew getting ready for Memorial Day, funerals, visitors, and flag placement...I'm confident we can get it done. Oh, and the rain starts around noon. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Flag placement is sponsored by the Mansfield Memorial and Patriotic Association. Bruce Phipps oversees the service; if you have any questions, please call 419-544-0311.

The Mansfield Memorial Day Parade will step off from Reba Ave. at 10:00 AM. The parade will start forming at 9:00 on Reba Ave. back to Gilbert Ave. Proceed north on Main Street, then east on Chestnut to the entrance of the Cemetery. The parade will continue to the back of the Cemetery to the Veterans Honor Grounds for the Memorial Day service. The Grand Marshal and featured speaker this year will be Brigadier General (retired) Christopher J. Dziubek who retired from the US Army after 33 years of service on November 1st, 2023.
We will have approximately 40 units in the parade this year, which include marching bands, an assortment of fire trucks, Police cars, Sheriffโ€™s car and military equipment along with Veterans and other groups. Due to the narrow streets in the Cemetery, the bands and all large vehicles will be directed down Altamont Street not going through the Cemetery.
In case of rain, the Memorial Day service will be held at the AMVETS POST #26 at 1100 West fourth Street.
Denny Hempfield is the Parade Marshal for this parade; If you have any questions, please call 419-884-2089.
Anyone who desires to come to the service, after the parade, can drive into the Cemetery by the back entrance from South Main Street. Proceed to the back of the Veterans Honor grounds located in the southeast corner of the Cemetery.

MEMORIAL DAY FLAGS
The flag placement on Saturday has been cancelled and moved to tomorrow. The Veterans Administration will be here putting flags out. They have reached out to various outlets letting them know the day has changed. Anyone willing to come put out flags tomorrow is welcome to. The flags will arrive between 9am and 9:30am. We do have 2 funerals tomorrow. One at the top of veterans hill and one at the bottom so please do not park in this area around 1pm.

Also, anyone visiting tomorrow or coming to decorate for the weekend is urged to come after 2pm. Up until then the cemetery will be quite busy and you may be asked to move your vehicle. The office will be closed tomorrow and will reopen Tuesday morning. Look for another Memorial Day Parade post tomorrow.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Donn Mengert, a passionate storyteller and dedicated historian of Mansfieldโ€™s past. Through his work with the Abandoned Mansfield Facebook group, Donn helped preserve the stories, places, and memories that make our community so meaningful. His love for local history was evident in everything he shared.

Donn had a special appreciation for Mansfield Cemetery, and we were grateful for the times we were able to collaborate with him in telling the stories of those laid to rest here in these 180-year-old hallowed grounds. He understood that a cemetery is not just a resting place, but a living record of a communityโ€™s history-and he helped others see that as well.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Donnโ€™s family, friends, and all who were touched by his work. His contributions will continue to inspire an appreciation for Mansfieldโ€™s history for years to come, and he will be deeply missed.

View Donn F. Mengert's obituary, contribute to their memorial, see their funeral service details, and more.

Gates will open tomorrow by noon and remain open until mother nature's next wrath.

Today our grounds crew is working on tending new burials this year and making sure they are staked for visibility. It has been over two weeks since we've been able to get to and see new burials to check for ground settling.
