Hey everyone !! I have been pretty silent these last few months, we are just living life, keeping the Grandguys a couple of days a week, working toward Bridgefest. The Mansfield Roller Mill is opening this weekend, The Mansfield Bar and Grill is serving beans and cornbread. We will NOT be open. We had prior commitments. As most people our whole mode of functioning has changed in the past year, so trying to get back in the swing of things. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Bridgefest.

Telling everyone Happy Spring !! We have been busy in our personal home life, getting to take care of our Two, grandguys a couple of days a week. The calendar those days are just marked FUN !! Just got my Mom settled in her new assisted living apartment, moving on to enjoying the spring weather, Chris hurt his back so out of serious work commission for a bit, although we were able to get out a get some mushrooms, he spotted them, I picked what he couldnt get with his special mushroom picker. Mansfield is not having its usual Mushroom Festival this year due to a change in ownership of the principle festival site. It is still advertised in the festival guide. We will not be opening, The Mansfield Bar and Grill will be open, Mike and Dottie Hope will be open with their festival foods, there may be more individual land owners open, if I hear of more I will post it. We will also not be opening this summer on a regular basis, we have some repair and maintenance that we will be over there working on and may do a pop up burger weekend here or there if the weather looks great. The Bar is open weekends, Mike and Dottie have been at Mansfield as long as we have, they are planning on being open weekends this summer, they have a nice selection of good food, super nice people. I am sure that we will run into many of you as we are in and out this summer, have a great one !!

Missing our friends, we learned last week that our friend Mike Howard from Brazil passed away in May. He and his wife Susie found us early on after we started Burger weekends. We missed seeing them last season because of our shortened schedule. They were always a joy to visit with, joking with them about their celebrity status as they did over the top Fourth the July decorating at their home and had a segment on the local news about them. They also were great friends of Lynn's pharmacy in Brazil and could often be found at the lunch counter there. Mike had a big personality and will truly be missed. Last evening we got a call from a Mansfield neighbor, Verna White, that our good friend and porch character Jim Corbin passed away. We have known Jim from way back when we first bought the building in 1991. He and his wife Susie, had a cabin along the creek north of the mill. Jim was a history teacher at Turkey Run for many years and at the time of his retirement. Susie was a total character very much enjoyed their company. When Susie passed away Jim moved to Mansfield full time, he spent many hours on the front porch of the Mill w Clyde Krout that was the Miller at that time. He busied himself keeping the flower boxes in the front of the Mill looking nice as the first Board member of the Mansfield Garden Club, he was the only member and he was ok with that. When we started doing burgers, he became part of our first group of regular, regulars, we lost our first member of that group Don Phipps, whose family was pretty much founding fathers of Mansfield 2yrs ago. .That loss hurt our spirit, then Jim decided to move to his winter home in Florida permanently, we lost a big chunk of why we opened in the first place. Don was proclaimed Mayor of Mansfield, Jim was I believe Director of sanitation, Jim was great about providing signage for the store, directional signs for wherever the destination of the weekend seemed to be. He made us an informational sign about our WPA issue outhouse, the Lettering was so good that I asked him if he stenciled it, he said that after thirty years of writing on a chalk board he should be able to do that in his sleep!! Anyway, so much fun and total BS happened on that front porch and not sure how to replace that, our young guys JR Berry and TJ Nicoson are stepping up but we will always have a special place in our hearts for those old guys 💔

My page asks me what's on my mind, well, lots, but most importantly I have decided to just let the summer of 2020 be what it is going to be. I will not be opening the store this summer. Most of you know that the store is my joy, not a great business model or huge money maker, in light of the changes necessary to operate according to Covid health regulations and meat prices, I have made this decision . We have some maintenance work to do at the store, so maybe we will see some of you will we are working. If things calm down to the point that the Mill has its Cornbread day in September, We will open then. You all have a wonderful summer, SO hope to see you in the fall. The Mansfield Bar and Grill is open weekends this summer as is Angie at the Country Store. Mansfield is a great place to visit with or without us !! Tamie
