Last week, our Program 2 youth took a field trip to Fair Oaks Farms, and it was an adventure to remember!

They got to see farm animals up close, learn how milk is produced, and even watch dairy products being made right on site. Between the hands-on exhibits, tours, and plenty of “wow” moments, there was no shortage of smiles.

The day wrapped up with a delicious meal at the farm’s restaurant—made with the very dairy products they had just learned about. It was the perfect mix of fun, learning, and new memories.

Founded in 1993, Nexus-Indian Oaks began as a residential treatment program serving male youth in Manteno, Illinois. In 1994, our campus expanded its programing and opened the doors to a residential girls’ program – Nexus' first significant work in supporting female youth.

At our trauma-informed care residential treatment facility, we proudly support youth of all genders navigating complex mental and behavioral health challenges. Program 2 had such a great time at Six Flags last week! They spent the day riding roller coasters, playing games, trying all the fair food—and more importantly, encouraging each other, trying new things, and celebrating little victories along the way.

What stood out most wasn’t just how much fun they had (though there was plenty of that!), but how well they worked together and supported one another. Several of them pushed past fears to try rides they weren’t sure about—and the cheers from their peers when they did was the best part of the day.

By the time we left, everyone was tired, proud, and smiling. A big win all around.
