Virginia Ann Roberson Jordan, 63, passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, after a seven-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born August 29, 1961, in Natchitoches, LA, to Harrell and Martha Roberson. She was their third daughter of four. On May 28, 1983, she married her loving husband, John Mark Jordan. They would have celebrated 42 years of marriage just days after her passing.
Virginia (Ginger) was a 1979 graduate of Natchitoches Central High School. She graduated in 1983 from Northwestern State University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Continuing her passion for education, she obtained her Masters of Education in Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin University in 1987. She then went on to earn her Specialist degree in Education Technology at Northwestern State University in 2000. Her motto became, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire,” by William B. Yeats.
After teaching for 33 years, including the last 25 at Florien High School, she retired on August 29, 2016—a true black and gold Blackcat.
During her educational career, she touched the lives of thousands of young people. She enjoyed carrying students across America for Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and many other organizations, supporting her children in showing cattle, and cheering on the Florien Blackcat Baseball Team.
Following her retirement from public schools, she continued to mentor young teachers and administrators through NSU and LSU.
She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma (a professional teachers’ sorority) and the Natchitoches Historical Society, where she enjoyed giving tours at Melrose Plantation and other historical sites in Natchitoches.
After her initial diagnosis in 2018, Ginger joined with four other women of Sabine Parish and founded the Pink Sisters of Sabine. When able, her energy was turned toward this group, which ministers to women with breast cancer. The organization has now grown and touches women throughout America in a positive way.
Ginger was an active member of First Baptist Church of Many, where she served with faithful commitment. She was dedicated to the media ministry, enjoyed playing in the handbell choir, and served as the director of Vacation Bible School. She was an advocate for the youth of the Church and believed in their learning to share the gospel through mission trips, such as World Changers and Mission Fuge. Events like these, shape peoples’ lives.
As a true example of a Proverbs 31 woman, she was a tremendous support to her husband and their family businesses.
She enjoyed family, watching her sons succeed and carry on her legacy and passion for education. Of all her titles, her favorite was being “Gigi” to Josey and Rhett. She loved attending little league baseball games, dance recitals, birthday parties, and other activities. She also enjoyed travel to the mountains and down back roads.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harrell and Martha Waddell Roberson; her sister, Susan Marie Roberson Pullig; and step-mom of almost 20 years, Evelyn Youngblood Rowe Roberson.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John Mark Jordan. She is also survived by her two sons, John David Jordan and Daniel Lee Jordan; Daniel’s wife, Brittney LeighAnn Brown Jordan; and two grandchildren, Kevin Rhett Jordan and Josey Mae Jordan, and all of Florien, LA. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Roberson Nance (the late Robert Nance); nephew, Robert Douglas Nance; niece, Kathryn Leigh Nance; nephew, Ted Pullig (Trina); sister, Rebecca (Becky) Roberson Shoemaker (Mark); niece, Jessica Shoemaker Arceneaux (Jesse); great-nieces, Hailie Arceneaux and Reagan Arceneaux; and niece, Holly Marie Shoemaker. She is also survived by three cherished step sisters, Ladelle St Andry, Sarah Pleasant, and Claire Ellerbe; and two beloved step brothers, Steve Roe and Tracy Roe. Along with a host of friends and colleagues.
