Poem for yoga class ~ given to me by Michelle Wilkey ~
written by Nell Aurelia

I'm cracked. Completely.
I fell into the furnace long enough
To decide to find my own fire and light.
And when I went all to pieces
Some surrendered to the heat
And those that were left were me
But purer: there is something of a diamond
Rushing through my core,
A full madness of restructuring.
There is no ruin here.
Unless that is your fearful name for transformation,
Which I can understand,
But when you fall flying into your own,
You'll understand:
Falling apart is full of its own reward,
However much it feels like dying, like failure
Full of the unbearable sensitivity
Of committing to this human experience,
Go deep in this fire.
There's a point where all explodes and converges,
And you find that you are yourself,
Only stronger, clearer, finer
The messiest refinement of all: Choosing to live well.
Well? Fully.
Alive to pain, to suffering, to inequality,
To joy, to birth, to creation, to love ~ To all,
Because when you get right down in it
Acknowledging pain only opens you more to joy.
The brilliant imperfections of love, of loving,
Can only make the world shine brighter;
It's fear that will give you half a life and convince you
You never wanted the other half anyway.

Symptoms of enlightenment by Deepak Chopra ~

According to Vedanta, there are only two symptoms of enlightenment, just two indications that a transformation is taking place within you toward higher consciousness. The first symptom is you stop worrying. Things don't bother you anymore. You become light-hearted and full of joy. The second symptom is that you encounter more and more synchronicity in your life. And this accelerates to the point where you actually experience the miraculous.

From the poem Encounter by Brooke McNamara

I want to know if you need permission
to arrive home right now
into your body longing to learn you.

Do you know breath
as always a holy door?
Who are you when you breathe
down deep, at last allowed to feel it all,
and your hair bursts into flame, and you remember:

we don't choose once and it's over,
but are asked to re-engage in every instant,
Look around : this very world
needs your arrival now, like sun
and like thunder, now and now and now.

From the door sill of a dream they called my name....
It was the good voice, the voice I loved so much.

"~Listen: will you go with me to visit the soul?..."
A soft stroke reached up to my heart.

"With you always"....And in my dream I walked
down a long and solitary corridor,
aware of the touching of the pure robe,
and the soft beating of blood in the hand that loved me.

Aimless Love

This morning as I walked along the lakeshore,
I fell in love with a wren
and later in the day with a mouse the cat had dropped under the dining room table.

In the shadows of an autumn evening,
I fell for a seamstress
still at her machine in the tailor's window,
and later for a bowl of broth,
steam rising like smoke from a naval battle.

This is the best kind of love, I thought,
without recompense, without gifts,
or unkind words, without suspicion,
or silence on the telephone.

The love of the chestnut,
the jazz cap and one hand on the wheel.

No lust, no slam of the door-
the love of the miniature orange tree,
the clean white shirt, the hot evening shower,
the highway that cuts across Florida.

No waiting, no huffiness, or rancor-
just a twinge every now and then
for the wren who had built her nest
on a low branch overhanging the water
and for the dead mouse,
still dressed in it's light brown suit.

But my heart is always propped up
in a field on its tripod,
ready for the next arrow.

After I carried the mouse by the tail
to a pile of leaves in the woods,
I found myself standing at the bathroom sink
gazing down affectionately at the soap,

so patient and soluble,
so at home in its pale green soap dish.
I could feel myself falling again
as I felt its turning in my wet hands
and caught the scent of lavender and stone.

Sometimes Growth is Just Seeing it Sooner
by Tara Sophia Mohr,

Sometimes growth is just seeing it sooner.
You see sooner that you are silencing your voice.
You see sooner that you are acting out of fear.
You see sooner that you are projecting the past onto the present. You see sooner that you were the one acting crazy, not them.
Because you did the work, you see it sooner.
Until our last breaths, we keep missing the mark.
We will dim our light and betray ourselves.
We will cause harm to those we love.
But if we stay awake, we can learn to course correct sooner.
Stay awake, and you might see it this year-- and not let it extend for a decade.
Stay awake, and you might see it this week-- and not let it extend for a year.
Stay awake, and you might see it this hour-- and not extend for a week.
Stay awake, and you'll receive those moments of grace, those crystal ones when, in the instant -- before the first choice
the first word, the first act,
you will catch it right at the moment of its beginning and choose differently.
The turnaround is the most important part of the flight path. When you make it, you move the whole world forward.
You plant a seed of love in the ground, and all those who come after you thank you.
