👏 Today, we say goodbye and thank you to Lukas Paul as he wraps up his summer internship with the Francis Medical Finance Team!

A rising sophomore at the University of South Dakota, majoring in Business Analytics with an accounting focus, Lukas jumped right into our ERP/Business System implementation—one of the most foundational projects as we prepare for commercialization.

💼 Controller, Paul Andresen, shared:

"Lukas has greatly contributed to our ERP implementation project by performing various case scenarios related to work orders, purchase orders, accounts payable, and general ledger transactions. He also prepared our historical monthly general ledger activity templates for import to the new ERP, which was a significant amount of data to analyze and compare to expectations. We appreciate that during his internship he brought enthusiasm every day, and we wish him the best at school this fall!"

💼 Michael “Fred” Fredrick, VP of Finance, added:

“My involvement with Lukas during his internship was primarily through our review sessions on the new ERP/Business System. He was deeply involved in preparing the monthly financial history file templates to be uploaded into our production environment. Lukas led these interactive reviews with the rest of the team, making updates on the fly as needed. Once final approval was confirmed, he uploaded the finalized files. Just coming off his freshman year at the University of South Dakota, Lukas presents himself as a very polished individual.”

We’re grateful for his hard work and fresh perspective—best of luck this fall, Lukas!

𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗞𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗸

After a decade of dedicated partnership — from the early days of NxThera to the founding and growth of Francis Medical — we are honored to recognize and thank Rick Kravik as he enters retirement.

Rick joined us in 2015, originally brought in to help launch the Rezūm product into manufacturing. From day one, his deep experience and calm leadership stood out. As Michael Hoey, our Founder and CTO, shared:

“When we were setting up the Rezūm product for manufacturing at NxThera, we needed a high-level, seasoned engineer to help get the process started. Sew-Wah Tay said: 'I've got the perfect person to help. He has previously developed and placed into manufacturing many medical devices. He's the right person for the job!' Rick subsequently agreed to work with us and accomplished that mission.

In that process, I was able to see that his capabilities extended well beyond manufacturing. I asked if he would continue working with us, but in more of an early research and development role. When we went through the acquisition with Boston Scientific and then started Francis Medical, I brought him with us into the new venture.

He has been invaluable with his creativity, development, and ability to work with the next generation of engineers to expand their development paradigms by combining practical skill development with more modern digital skills. Now it's Rick's mission to spend more time with his family and mentor his grandchildren with everyday life and human skills. I can proudly say that I'm happy for him and his family… and yet hoping that he might have just a little extra time to come back and help us when in need! Thanks Rick for being a part of our family too!”

Rick’s work ethic, positive attitude, wisdom, mentorship, and infectious sense of humor have made a lasting impact on Francis Medical — and all of us who’ve had the chance to work with him.

Please join us in thanking Rick and wishing him the very best in this next chapter!

A new JAMA Oncology article advocates for a paradigm shift toward MRI-targeted prostate cancer screening, showing it detects more aggressive cancers while reducing overdiagnosis of indolent ones and avoiding unnecessary biopsies.

As screening evolves to identify the right patients earlier, Francis Medical is getting poised to offer the Vanquish Water V***r Ablation System. This patient-centered, minimally invasive approach will redefine prostate cancer care.

Thanks for joining us in shaping a future where innovation meets compassion!

About Us

Francis Medical is a dynamic medical device company committed to developing urological cancer treatments that are tough on cancer, yet gentle on patients. Our work is fueled by a compassionate belief that cancer can be stopped with minimally invasive treatments. The company’s core values are Quality, Integrity, Innovation, Excellence, and Collaboration.

Prostate Cancer

Using a new platform to treat endourological cancers, water v***r technology, we’re developing a device for treating prostate cancer, the second most common cancer in American men. Currently available prostate cancer treatments often result in life-altering side effects such as urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Water v***r technology is intended to result in minimal side effects, offering a distinct advantage over other treatments.

Francis Medical is named after Francis Hoey, the father of inventor and Francis Medical founder, Michael Hoey. In 1991, after undergoing prostate cancer treatments with debilitating effects on his daily living, Francis died from prostate cancer.
