Our NICU babies are ready to celebrate Halloween with the cutest, sportiest, granny-est looks around! While they may not be old enough to go trick or treating or eat sweet treats quite yet, they are rocking their most festive looks from the comfort of their rooms.

When Artiera and Vishakha met in a birth & parenting class at North - Maple Grove Hospital last May, they instantly clicked and kept in touch as their due dates got closer. Little did they know, their babies would arrive on the same day - and less than two hours apart.

The morning that Artiera’s water broke, she drove herself to the hospital unsure if it was a false alarm but soon got confirmation the baby was on the way. Meanwhile, Vishakha texted, “I think my water broke too. Keep me posted so I know what to expect next!" Vishakha got her nails painted blue while she waited for her labor to progress, and by noon, both moms were admitted just down the hall from one another. They popped into each other’s rooms to say hi and hang out during early labor, and the next day their baby boys met for the first time. 💙💙

They’ve gotten together once since, and it’s been the beginning of a beautiful friendship - one that reminds us that the best support can come from someone who’s walking the same path (or delivering in the room down the hall). 💫

As soon as our 70,000th baby made its arrival last Saturday, our Family Birth Center teams were ready to celebrate with a POP themed cart! 🎉 They made the rounds, delivering on-theme goodies like popcorn, cake pops, and soda pop to mark the occasion in a memorable way.

Congratulations to this team on an incredible milestone in caring for the community!

Over the weekend, we had the joy of welcoming baby Hugo, who made his early debut as the 70,000th baby born at our hospital! 👶 After spending a few weeks in our antepartum unit, proud parents Kelly and Todd finally got to meet their beautiful bundle of joy - and what a moment it was, as Hugo’s arrival marks a major milestone in our journey of care, compassion, and community.

To every family who has trusted us with their most precious moments as we celebrate 15 years of North - Maple Grove Hospital, thank you. And to Hugo: welcome to the world, little one! You’ve already made history. 💙

We’re honored to share the moving words of one family who experienced our NICU team’s compassion and care firsthand.

"The NICU is never a place you expect to be, but we are so thankful North Memorial Health is where we ended up when our baby needed care.

When Walker was only a day old, our world shifted. We learned he required more than our local hospital could provide and a helicopter came to carry him to North - Maple Grove Hospital. The crew called us from the air and again when they landed in Maple Grove, giving us hope and reassurance at a time we felt so uncertain. From that first call we knew he was in the best hands.

Our nurses gave the highest level of care to our baby and stood by us during the hardest days of our lives. At each shift change we felt nervous to say goodbye to the incredible nurse who had been with us, only to find the next one was just as amazing. When we shared our gratitude, many told us that caring for babies and families like ours was their dream job, something that still brings me to tears each time I think about it!

Every doctor who came into our room knew our son’s story inside and out and offered guidance and information with so much compassion. The NICU is a hard place to begin, but thanks to these extraordinary people we know that angels truly walk among us.

As we continue to celebrate NICU Awareness Month, we remain humbled by the Ge**er family who have built such a beautiful tradition with our team to honor their daughter Emerson’s North - Maple Grove Hospital NICU journey. Each year on her birthday, they deliver food to NICU families currently in our care, as well as to our care team, to show appreciation and offer a moment of recognition for the staff who provide critical care and comfort to families in need.

This year is extra special as Emerson turned 5! She dreams of working at the Animal Humane Society like her mom, is celebrating with a mermaid-themed birthday party, and adores her favorite doll, Lollipop.

We’re so grateful to the Ge**er family for letting us be part of Emerson’s story and for celebrating with our NICU community year after year. Through the North Memorial Health Foundation, families like the Ge**er's find meaningful ways to give back and stay connected.
