Safety is a concern for anyone but becomes increasingly more important as we age. Staying on top of safety precautions can help prevent falls, broken bones, or other injuries.

We’ve put together a short list of tips to help our Southview residents and others stay safer at home.

• Choose non-slip footwear and avoid walking on smooth surfaces in socks or slippers.
• Schedule regular vision and hearing exams.
• Maintain balance and core strength with regular exercise.
• Keep walkways clear of cords, shoes, or other tripping hazards.
• Add grab bars or railings to entryways, hallways, tubs, and showers.
• For extra support, consider using a cane or walker.

Alzheimer’s affects the thought, language, and memory portions of the brain. There is no cure and its cause is unknown, but it’s suggested that regular exercise, reducing blood pressure, and not smoking may reduce a person’s risk. To learn more, visit the link in the comments.
