February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Developing good dental health habits helps children jumpstart a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

Ways to help your kiddos:
1. It is recommended by first birthday or first tooth, that your child see a dentist.
2. Clean your baby’s gums daily. Until those teeth come in gently wipe a damp washcloth over the gums to clear away harmful bacteria after each feeding.
3. Start brushing with the first tooth. Begin brushing your baby’s teeth when you see one coming in with an infant toothbrush. Use water and a tiny bit of fluoride toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice).
4. We are all for teaching independence and letting your child brush on their own, but we recommend going back and making sure the posterior teeth were reached until age 5.
5. Come see your dentist every 6 months because it is best to catch a cavity in a baby tooth when it is small!
