πŸ˜… Did you know that you can hack your biology to help calm emotional distress? When we are having big feelings, trying to use logic to calm down is like trying to mix oil and water 🚫 it doesn’t work! But what does work is addressing our physical symptoms and changing our body chemistry to help us calm down. Some of my favorite ways to do this are:

🧊 Putting an ice pack on the back of my neck or drinking ice water
🌲 Going outside and deep breathing
πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Doing some sort of high intensity movement, even for just a few minutes! Getting your heart rate up can help get your body to literally cool off after.

1. Look around the room for an object that is red. ❀️
2. Identify an orange object and focus on it. 🧑
3. Move on to a yellow object and take a deep breath. πŸ’›
4. Notice a green object and feel the tension easing away. πŸ’š
5. Shift your attention to a blue object and feel a sense of calm. πŸ’™

Sometimes the end result just looks different than you might have pictured πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Do you struggle with uncertainty or anxiety over the unknown? Most of us do! As humans we like to be able to know what to expect. Unfortunately, life sometimes brings us the unexpected and we need to pivot or adjust our expectations. We can do this through reframing our thoughts, challenging unhelpful beliefs, and adjusting our behaviors to build up distress tolerance. βœ¨πŸ™πŸΌ
