Florida Keys charter captain Angus Boatwright spent decades building a quiet life on the water, running "Boatwright’s Fish Camp" on Indian Key Fill and guiding anglers through the Upper Keys. That life ended on April 24, 1960, when he answered distress signals near Cay Sal Bank and unknowingly approached two desperate fugitives posing as shipwrecked sailors. Once aboard his boat, Muriel III, the men pulled guns, shot Boatwright, stole his vessel, and fled toward Cuba. The killers were later captured, tried in the Bahamas, and executed in 1961, leaving behind one of the Keys’ darkest and most chilling pirate tragedies.
