The subclade K strain of Flu A-the so-called “super flu” which is a mutation of H3N2-is circulating.

By the end of flu season, every state will experience high amounts of influenza activity.

“It is certainly not too late,” said Dr. Andrew Pekosz, an infectious disease specialist with Johns Hopkins. “Now would be a great time for individuals to go out and get that last influenza vaccine.. to provide one layer of protection.”

Even if the vaccine isn’t a perfect match to current strains, it lowers your chances of getting sick. If you do get the flu, your symptoms are usually milder, you recover faster, and you’re less likely to require hospitalization or experience serious complications.

Flu vaccines are available at all local pharmacies.
