💉🌿What is a continuous glucose monitor (CGM)?🍩🍑

A CGM is a small device usually placed on the back of your arm or on your abdomen. It monitors your blood sugar levels throughout the day and typically lasts 10-14 days before it deactivates. Many models, like Dexcom B7 and Stelo have apps you can download and you can monitor via your phone.

It could look like a lot of things.....

It could be abdominal weight gain, waking up between the hours of 1am and 4am, brain fog, unexplained fatigue in the afternoons, fatigue after meals, increased hunger, and more.

Insurance doesn't cover many of the markers that test for it. Diabetes can be avoided in so many cases.

What you put into your body affects your health and overall well-being. It is so important that you are aware of where your food comes from. YES- IT IS MORE EXPENSIVE! BUT WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR HEALTH?

How can we justify spending money on fancy cars, luxury purses and shoes, or other costly non- necessities, yet we go for “the sale” or want to buy in bulk to save money on things that aren’t good for us?

You get one vehicle to navigate this life. It’s your body. At the end of the day, money only buys you so much when it comes to disease and other health issues. Insurance companies are not your friend. Big Pharma is not your friend.

🍩💉What can you do to avoid pre-diabetes and/or your chance of becoming diabetic? Monitor for Insulin Resistance. 🍬💊

What is insulin resistance and why aren't your doctors talking about it?

Your cells want glucose- which is what our food, especially carbs, can be broken down into. Once the glucose is in your blood (though digestion), it needs a door dash delivery service to es**rt it to the cells for entry.

When there is too much glucose in the blood all at once, the insulin (the door dash delivery) is beating at the door, but the cell won't answer. So the glucose remains in the blood, becoming more viscous and setting the stage for diabetes.

Why aren't your doctors monitoring for this or talking about it? Because they don't get paid to tell you to change your diet and increase your daily activity. They get paid to write prescriptions and perform procedures- which we need them to be able to do.

Our health care system is flawed. It is time to do something different. You get one vehicle to navigate life. Why are you not investing in it?

This especially helpful if you are trying to balance your blood sugar due to insulin resistance, pre diabetes, or diabetes.

Don’t eat a naked carb! Why: Because it is turned into glucose pretty quickly and absorbed into your bloodstream. Instead, pair your carbs with a protein such as grilled chicken, eggs, low sodium deli meats, or a protein shake!

What is the reasoning behind this approach? Stay tuned this week and I’ll break it down!

🥑🥦🍗Fat, Fiber, Protein is a great mantra to have if that works for you! (I say this because every BODY is different and this may not apply to some individuals) 🥑🥦🍗

It is a great habit to focus on adequate healthy fats, cooked or steamed vegetables, and the appropriate amount of protein for your body.

This is not a means of demonizing or omitting carbs- they are very important and you can get adequate amounts in the forms of grains and vegetables (not the s**t in a package or box please)

Here are 3 interesting facts about avocados:

1. Nutrient Density: Avocados are often considered a superfood due to their high nutrient density. They contain essential vitamins such as K, E, C, and B vitamins, along with healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fat, which is beneficial for heart health.

2. Unique Fruit Classification: Botanically, avocados are classified as berries, specifically large berries with a single seed. They are commonly perceived as vegetables in culinary contexts.

3. Ripening process: avocados do not ripen on the tree, instead, they ripen off the tree after being harvested. To speed up the ripening process, placing them in a paper bag with a banana or apple can help due to the ethylene gas these fruits emit, which accelerates ripening!

🍃🥑 Incorporating vegetables into your diet can be a challenge, especially if you're not a fan of their taste or texture. Here are 5 effective strategies to sneak veggies into your meals:

1. Smoothies: Blend leafy greens like spinach or kale with fruits such as bananas, berries, or mango. Keep this as a morning option!!!
2. Pureed Soups: Cook and blend vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, or zucchini into soups.
3. Sauces and dips: incorporate pureed vegetables into sauces, such as marinara or Alfredo. You can also mix finely grated veggies into dips like hummus or guacamole.
4. Baking and Cooking: Add grated or finely chopped vegetables into baked goods such as muffins, brownies, or breads) or casseroles. Carrots, zucchini, and squash can be particularly effective without being noticeable.
5. Veggie- infused rice or pasta: Cook you rice or pasta in vegetable broth for flavor and consider adding grated or diced vegetables into the mix!
