Tropical Strom Nicole is expected to increase to a Hurricane by Wednesday afternoon and is targeting the East Coast of Florida. Governor DeSantis has issued a State of Emergency for most of Florida including Collier County. The National Hurricane Center warns residents to not focus on the exact track of Nicole since it is expected to be a large storm with hazards extending outside the forecast cone. Nicole will produce rainfall Wednesday and Thursday, with winds beginning Wednesday morning. Be prepared for the possibility of power outages and do not drive on flooded roads. Visit www.nhc.noaa.gov for up to date information on Tropical Strom Nicole.

Big thanks to everyone involved!

Thank you Collier County, Florida for assisting us in removing this fence from the beach on Marco! We're still seeing the effects of Ian and cautioning residents to be careful on the beach. Great teamwork!

The City of Marco Island encourages residents and visitors to voluntarily evacuate the Island in the face of Hurricane Ian. Given the strength and uncertainty of the track of Hurricane Ian, there is a potential threat to life and property. The threat is not yet imminent, but the timeline is less than 36 hours until the Island may be subject to 4-7 feet of storm surge, flooded roads and power outages. Now is the time for residents to consider leaving the Island and heading inland towards the East Coast of Florida.

This is also the time to prepare for a potential mandatory evacuation, should an order be issued. Due to the potential for rapidly changing conditions, residents are advised to prepare for the possibility of a mandatory evacuation order. To avoid additional stress during an already tense time, develop an evacuation plan now and consider leaving early. The City will not close the Jolley Bridge or impede egress from the Island.

When sustained winds reach a dangerous level, police, fire rescue and emergency medical response may be suspended. First responders may not be able to respond in the event of an emergency. Residents should not drive on flooded roads and should not be outdoors when tropical storm winds begin. Marco Island is expecting tropical storm winds to begin around 8:00pm Tuesday evening. Hurricane force winds are expected Wednesday morning.

The City’s website www.cityofmarcoisland.com has helpful information including what should be included in your emergency supply kit, how to prepare your boat, generator safety, and flood safety.

Keep safe, watch out for each other& keep informed! We’re stronger, together ❤️🏝🙏🙏

The City has sent a Code Red Alert. Collier County is under a Tropical Storm Watch and a Storm Surge Watch. Ian is expected to develop into a major Hurricane and Marco Island should expect heavy rain, storm surge, and hurricane force winds. Now is the time to prepare you home and boat. Plan for a major hurricane.

Thank goodness we made it through another season! 🙏❤️🏝

Please keep watch and drive carefully. These precious creatures need our attention to survive.

Please drive slowly at night on Marco Island. Chicks are just starting to emerge and sometimes they feed on insects under streetlights. Help us protect these wonderful, little raptors by watching out for them near roads.

Update on Isiais....
It looks like the storm will be hitting the East coast. But don’t let this movement make you complacent. A tropical storm may feel like “nothing“… But tropical storms and Cat1 hurricanes can still cause a lot of damage. Hurricane Isiais is very unpredictable, and we won’t know exactly what we’re dealing with until it happens.

At this time, in SWFL, Marco Island is within the tropical storm wind field forecast. But that could change quickly. This storm is very disorganized due to some wind shear and other factors.

This could be like any other afternoon thunderstorm. But depending on its forward speed, it could sit and spin for a much longer period of time. Secure outdoor items so they don’t end up in the neighbors yard, canals or pools. Continue to be vigilant and kind to all . And most importantly, be safe friends! ❤️🙏🏝
